Yesterday, on January 26, 2024, Toyota Vietnam announced on their homepage that they will resume sales of the Avanza Premio manual transmission (MT) model. Toyota Vietnam stated that they will resume the delivery of the Avanza Premio MT to dealerships from January 26, 2024, after receiving instructions from the Toyota Group and reporting to regulatory agencies. The Avanza Premio MT has been confirmed to meet safety and environmental standards by independent certification bodies overseas.

Previously, on December 20, 2023, in Japan, Daihatsu Motor Company held a press conference to announce abnormalities in the vehicle certification procedures. According to the investigation by a third-party independent committee and the official announcement from global Toyota, Vietnam has one affected model, the Avanza Premio MT.

Specifically, there was an inappropriate modification in the Toyota Avanza Premio MT during the overseas emission and fuel consumption tests. According to Toyota Vietnam, this modification does not affect the safety and quality of the vehicle. In addition, this model complies with the testing regulations and is certified to meet the standards according to Vietnamese standards. Therefore, customers can rest assured when using the vehicle.

Toyota Vietnam temporarily suspended the delivery of the Avanza Premio MT to dealerships from December 21, 2023, to wait for instructions from the Toyota Group as the certification of this model is being reviewed by independent testing and certification agencies. After receiving instructions from the Toyota Group and reporting to the management agencies in Vietnam, the company has resumed the delivery of the Avanza Premio MT to dealerships from January 26, 2024.

Not long ago, on January 19, 2024, Toyota Vietnam officially announced the recall program for the Avanza Premio range to tighten the front shock absorber lower bolt and replace the front sliding pin dust boot. The program will be officially implemented by Toyota Vietnam from January 19, 2024, at all dealerships nationwide.

Specifically, there are 3,514 Toyota Avanza vehicles recalled to tighten the front shock absorber lower bolt. These vehicles were manufactured from January 6, 2022, to October 26, 2022.

According to Toyota Vietnam, the front shock absorber of the affected vehicles uses lower bolts to attach to the vehicle. Due to a design issue, the tightening force of the lower bolts may be insufficient. During the use of the vehicle, the lower bolts may loosen, causing abnormal noises. In the worst case, the lower bolts may fall off, causing instability during vehicle use.

Customers with affected vehicles will receive notifications from Toyota dealerships to bring their vehicles for inspection. Based on the inspection results, the customers’ vehicles will be subjected to the tightening of the front shock absorber lower bolt. The estimated time for inspection and repair/replacement is approximately 0.5 to 2.5 hours per vehicle.

Meanwhile, the number of Toyota Avanza vehicles recalled to replace the front sliding pin dust boot is 710. These vehicles were manufactured from September 12, 2022, to October 26, 2022.

Toyota Vietnam stated that the front sliding pin dust boot is equipped to prevent dust and water from entering. During the assembly of the front suspension, the assembly tools may come into contact with the dust boot, causing damage to the dust boot. If water enters the dust boot and causes corrosion, the brake caliper may be prematurely worn out.

Customers with affected vehicles will receive notifications from Toyota dealerships to bring their vehicles for inspection. Based on the inspection results, the customers’ vehicles will be subjected to the replacement of the front sliding pin dust boot/front suspension set. The estimated time for inspection and repair/replacement is approximately 1.3 to 2.4 hours per vehicle.
