Before the Vietnamese automobile market welcomes the registration fee incentives for domestically assembled cars, the small-size MPV segment has implemented a high-value promotion program worth tens of millions of dong.
Slow-selling cars with big promotions
Introduced to the Vietnamese automobile market since September 2022, the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid up until now has not been able to become the new growth driver for Suzuki in Vietnam and has shown its inability to replace the position left by the previous generation.
After 5 months of this year, Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid can be seen as the slowest-selling name in the affordable MPV segment if we ignore the sales of the only model equipped with a conventional engine.
The accumulated sales of Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid from the beginning of the year until now is 211 units, with the peak sales of 52 units achieved in February.
Therefore, Vietnam Suzuki has launched incentives for both the manual and automatic versions of Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid to stimulate demand and boost sales.

Specifically, the manual version of Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid produced in 2022 is supported with a 50% reduction in registration fee, equivalent to a value of 26 million dong. The automatic version of this model is offered with a 50% reduction in registration fee along with a 2-year physical insurance package, bringing the total promotion value in June to 50 million dong.
Notably, some Suzuki dealerships are also offering a cash discount of up to 70 million dong for the automatic version of Ertiga Hybrid. Therefore, the sale price of this model after the discount is only 538 million dong, lower than the manual version of Mitsubishi Xpander.
In June, customers buying Suzuki XL7 also enjoy a promotion program. The best-selling passenger car model of Suzuki in Vietnam is implementing a 50% reduction in registration fee along with a 1-year physical insurance package worth 40 million dong.
Japanese and Korean cars racing for price reduction
Although being a “rookie” in the segment as it has just been introduced to the Vietnamese market in the late 2022, Hyundai Stargazer has temporarily surpassed Suzuki XL7 to become the third best-selling affordable MPV in the Vietnamese market after Mitsubishi Xpander and Toyota Veloz Cross.
The good sales performance of Hyundai Stargazer mainly comes from the promotion programs through the registration fee supports deployed by dealerships throughout the early months of the year.

Currently, the sale price of the Standard version of Hyundai Stargazer is 498 million dong, the Special version is priced at 541 million dong, and the Premium version is offered at 587 million dong.
Therefore, Hyundai Stargazer is the MPV model with the best promotion program in the Vietnamese market. However, this nearly 90 million dong discount is only applicable to the Premium version of Stargazer produced in 2022.
Another “rookie” in the segment is Kia Carens, which is also sold at attractive discounted prices compared to the previous listed prices. Currently, the gasoline engine versions of Kia Carens are discounted by 30-60 million dong and are ranging from 589 to 659 million dong.
The turbocharged gasoline engine versions of Kia Carens are priced at 725-769 million dong, while the diesel engine versions are priced at 829 million dong and 859 million dong, respectively.
As of the end of May, Mitsubishi Xpander is the best-selling affordable MPV in the segment and at the same time the best-selling vehicle in the entire Vietnamese market. This small-size MPV achieved accumulated sales of 6,699 units since the beginning of the year, equivalent to nearly 1,340 units per month.
In June, customers buying Xpander will receive 100% registration fee exemption, 1-year physical insurance, and an attractive interest rate on loans. In addition, the company also offers customers a 360-degree camera worth 20 million dong if they choose to buy Mitsubishi Xpander in June.

For Toyota Veloz Cross and Avanza Premio, the promotion program for customers buying cars in June has a maximum value of 32 million dong, including 1 year of insurance and a gift package worth 15 million dong.
Currently, Toyota Veloz Cross is the second best-selling MPV in Vietnam with sales of 3,640 units after 5 months. Hyundai Stargazer ranks third with a sales volume of 1,727 units since the beginning of the year, slightly higher than the sales of 1,239 units achieved by Suzuki XL7.
In the affordable MPV segment, only the manual version of Mitsubishi Xpander, the Kia Carens models, and the Toyota Veloz Cross/Avanza Premio duo are being assembled domestically. The remaining representatives in the segment are imported directly from Indonesia.
