During a visit to Nissan’s design center in Japan, a Nissan representative unveiled the “Nissan M.O.V.E.” plan, which includes the ProPILOT advanced driving technology. This technology will be incorporated into 20 car models in 20 markets by 2022.
1. ProPILOT Autonomous Driving Technology:
ProPILOT is a state-of-the-art self-driving technology designed for single lane driving on highways in real-world conditions. It consists of three key features: maintaining a predetermined speed, automatically controlling acceleration and braking to keep a safe distance from the preceding vehicle, and keeping the vehicle centered in the lane on straight roads and gentle curves.
The ProPILOT system is effective at speeds ranging from 30km/h to 100km/h. Below 50km/h, the ProPILOT system operates only when there is a preceding vehicle. Nissan is currently conducting a one-year pilot program in Japan on ProPILOT-equipped Nissan models to enhance their autonomous driving capabilities, with the goal of achieving Level 3 or Level 4 automation.
2. Intelligent Parking Technology: ProPILOT Park
Nissan’s ProPILOT Park technology is available in the Nissan LEAF 2018 model. This cutting-edge technology relies on four high-resolution cameras and 12 sensors strategically positioned around the vehicle to provide real-time evaluation of the surrounding environment.
ProPILOT Park enables the vehicle to autonomously park in various real-life scenarios, including parallel parking, perpendicular parking, and angled parking. Users simply need to select the desired parking position and press the ProPILOT Park button, and the vehicle will take care of parking itself. Additionally, the system is designed to halt the vehicle if it detects any potential hazards during the parking process.
3. Intelligent Pedal Technology: e-Pedal
The e-Pedal technology is one of the advanced features Nissan applies to its commercial vehicles. With the Nissan e-Pedal, drivers can seamlessly start, accelerate, and decelerate the vehicle using only one pedal.
Once the e-Pedal is engaged, removing the foot from the accelerator pedal prompts the vehicle to automatically decelerate. When the vehicle comes to a complete stop, the hydraulic brake system activates automatically to maintain the vehicle’s position. The system is capable of keeping the vehicle stationary on uphill and downhill slopes, even on steep inclines (up to 30%). In emergency situations, drivers can still utilize the conventional braking system.
4. Intelligent Rearview Mirror: Intelligent Rearview Mirror
The Intelligent Rearview Mirror is a state-of-the-art mirror that incorporates an LCD screen for displaying real-time video footage captured by a rear-mounted camera. Drivers can easily switch between the LCD screen and the traditional rearview mirror by pressing a switch located at the bottom of the mirror, depending on their preferences.
This innovative rearview mirror ensures drivers have a clear view of the traffic situation behind the vehicle, effectively eliminating blind spots. It greatly enhances safety and driving comfort. The Intelligent Rearview Mirror is currently featured in Nissan models such as Nissan Armada and Nissan Patrol.
5. Intelligent Auto Headlights: Intelligent Auto Headlights
The Intelligent Auto Headlights system serves two purposes: automatically activating the headlights when the ambient light decreases, and automatically activating the headlights when the driver activates the windshield wipers during rain.
This system utilizes sensors to measure the intensity of ambient light and accurately determines the appropriate time to activate the headlights. In the event of inadvertent activation of the windshield wipers, the headlights turn on, but they will not operate if the windshield wipers are not used for a certain period of time. The Intelligent Auto Headlights system is currently integrated into Nissan models such as X-TRAIL and QASHQAI.
All the aforementioned features are part of Nissan’s commitment to developing advanced technologies that enhance safety and provide a more convenient driving experience.
