BMW Group has recently adopted Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), becoming the latest car manufacturer to do so.
On October 17th, BMW Group announced that they will start using Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) for their electric models starting in 2025. This decision is part of their commitment to provide the best services to their customers.

Under the agreement, BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce models sold in the North American market will be able to utilize Tesla’s Supercharger stations through an adapter, beginning in 2025. Furthermore, upcoming models will come equipped with the necessary charging port.
In addition, the three aforementioned brands will receive software updates enabling the feature to locate Tesla charging stations. Payment options will also be integrated directly into each brand’s respective application.

“With six currently available electric models from BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce in the US market, and more models coming in the future, our top priority is to ensure that customers have easy access to the fastest and most reliable charging system,” stated Sebastian Mackensen, Chairman of BMW.
Similarly, the CEO of BMW North America commented, “This agreement demonstrates our long-term and continuous efforts to expand charging options for our customers.”
Tesla, as a pioneer and industry leader in the electric vehicle market, has established an extensive network of charging stations known as Superchargers. This network has made Tesla a top choice for consumers when considering an electric car purchase. The NACS charging port standards set by Tesla’s system are known for being simple, convenient, and less prone to malfunctions.

In addition to adopting Tesla’s charging port, BMW has recently partnered with General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Stellantis to establish a shared charging station network across North America. This collaborative effort aims to build approximately 30,000 charging stations, equipped with both NACS and CCS plugs.
