Skoda Kodiaq is an excellent family car that meets all the important criteria within its price range. However, up until now, an electric version of the Kodiaq has not been released.

While we wait for the official launch of the Skoda Kodiaq in Vietnam, let’s take a look at how foreign experts evaluate this car.

Seven years ago, upon its release, Skoda Kodiaq received high praise from the UK magazine TopGear, being compared to big names like the Toyota Yaris GR, Honda e, Audi RS6, and Porsche Taycan. The Skoda Kodiaq is a 7-seater SUV designed for families, offering a reasonable price, compact space, smart design, and premium materials. Its safety and reliability, inherited from the Volkswagen MQB chassis platform – one of Europe’s leading industrial platforms – are especially noteworthy.

However, while other competitors in the same segment, and even lower segments, have strongly upgraded their offerings with electric or even fully electric versions to align with the general trend, the Kodiaq seems to have been limited to small upgrades. Nevertheless, the Skoda Kodiaq 2023 is still a highly desirable car.

For those who value “European quality,” such as the chassis, engine, and premium interior, without the need to showcase the likes of “Audi-Mercedes-BMW,” Skoda is the most suitable brand. The exterior design of the Kodiaq sports a strong and masculine look, commonly seen on Volkswagen models. The lines are modern and friendly, yet not overly flashy or extravagant.

In the 2023 version, Skoda Kodiaq still boasts the VW MQB chassis system according to the standards of its parent company, Volkswagen. In the European market, the car is available with 5 different engine options. Firstly, a 1.5L petrol engine delivering a power output of 150 HP and a torque of 250 Nm; secondly, a 2.0L petrol engine with a power output of 190 HP but capable of reaching 250 HP in the vRS sports version, equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged engine.

As for the diesel engine option, the 2.0L Skoda Kodiaq can produce up to 150 HP and 361 Nm of torque, or up to 200 HP thanks to the 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine. All engines in the Skoda Kodiaq lineup are supplied by the reputable Volkswagen Group. However, it is worth noting that the Skoda Kodiaq does not currently have an electric option, which is a rather unusual move considering the current trend in the global automotive industry.

The car is also available with various options, including front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and automatic or manual transmission. In its highest version, the Skoda Kodiaq can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just under 8 seconds. This figure will surely not disappoint those who prefer a sporty and thrilling driving experience. The renowned VW DSG gearbox will certainly not disappoint those who wish to shift gears manually.

Considering its mid-size SUV category, the weight of only 1.5 tons seems relatively light. However, the car does not feel loose. On the contrary, Skoda Kodiaq responds promptly and flexibly to every steering and throttle input from the driver. When sitting in the driver’s seat, one can feel confident and truly in control of the vehicle, regardless of its 7-seater size, with a gentle and agile manner.

Overall, noise insulation is acceptable, with the only notable noise coming from wind due to the relatively large size of the rearview mirror. However, passengers can comfortably embark on long journeys without experiencing car sickness. The third row of seats is only suitable for children under 1.5m in height.

The interior of the Skoda Kodiaq harmoniously blends Audi’s elegance with a hint of the powerful, muscular American style. The central control cluster, gear lever, and other details are inherited from Volkswagen. The display interface on the two screens is sharp and minimalist. The cabin is adorned with premium materials, displaying excellent craftsmanship and solidity. The 2-spoke steering wheel stands out with its beauty and youthful appeal.

In the UK market, the price range for a Skoda Kodiaq starts from £33,845 and goes up to £48,075 (equivalent to 1 – 1.4 billion VND). According to TopGear, the Skoda Kodiaq version deemed most worthy of purchase is the 1.5 TSI SE L Executive 5dr DSG 7-seater, priced at £34,865.

In summary, Skoda Kodiaq is a very suitable family car within the price range of 1 – 1.5 billion VND. It possesses a chassis, engine, and gearbox system from the reputable VW Group, delivering a solid yet agile and safe driving experience. Its design is modern and friendly, without being overly ostentatious. The interior space is not overly spacious but sufficient, with premium materials and user-friendly features. One drawback worth mentioning is that the Kodiaq does not currently offer a hybrid version.

In Vietnam, sources suggest that the Skoda brand will introduce the Kodiaq, along with a range of other products, through TC Motor’s distribution network this September. The car will initially be imported as a completely built-up unit, with potential plans for local assembly at the brand’s factory complex in Quang Ninh province.
