This system is designed to enhance safety by using GPS data and forward-facing video cameras to detect road signs and predict cornering angles. As a result, the headlights are able to provide the best illumination.

The American carmaker also mentioned that the system can expand the beam of light at intersections and roundabouts to better illuminate obstacles that are not in the direction of travel.

In addition, Ford is currently working on a spot lighting system that is capable of detecting pedestrians, cyclists, or large animals. This system utilizes infrared cameras and is able to continuously identify and track up to 8 different objects at distances of up to 120m.

Ken Washington, Ford’s Vice President of Research and Advanced Engineering, stated: “Many drivers have to quickly react to unexpected people or objects on the road at night. Advanced camera-based lighting and spot lighting systems are designed to ensure that drivers are promptly alerted when people or animals may pose a danger.”
