After an explosive start to the championship, VMRC 2023 stage two presented numerous dramatic surprises as the race track was modified by the organizing committee, introducing even more challenges for the racers. Despite the heavy noon rain, the UB150 category racers exhibited unwavering determination and intense competition, making the race more thrilling than ever.
Dai Nam race track: Promising to exceed expectations
In contrast to the first race, the Dai Nam race track has undergone a redesign by the Vietnam Motor Racing Championship 2023 organizing committee to elevate the level of difficulty, demanding racers to adapt and showcase even more skillful vehicle control techniques. Consequently, every victory necessitates significantly more effort and showcases the true ability of each racer on the podium.
Specifically, the length of the race track has been adjusted to a mere 1,800 meters, notwithstanding the increment in the number of turns to 15, comprising 6 left turns and 9 right turns. In comparison to the previous race, the length of the Dai Nam race track has decreased by 400 meters, while simultaneously introducing an additional 4 curves. Notably, from turn 6 to turn 11, a stretch of track renowned for its speed, direct competition thrives as a consequence of the densely arranged and consecutive left-right turn pairs.
This signifies that racers have reduced time to accelerate and create distance, but a surfeit of opportunities to pursue and compete within the curves. In other words, spectators shall bear witness to countless exhilarating and riveting moments of speed and competition. However, each athlete shall encounter greater challenges than before.
On the morning of July 23, 2023, the day of the second round of VMRC 2023, Dai Nam Binh Duong recorded an air temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, abundant sunlight with scattered clouds, and a wind speed of 22 km/h — conditions poised to facilitate thrilling and breathtaking moments of speed for the spectators.
Vietnam Talent Cup – NSF100: Consistent performance
Racer #40 Nguyen Trung Kien exhibited an exceptionally consistent performance, clinching first place in the initial round and securing the pole position for the second round. Racers #82 Truong Duc Tri and #74 Yao Ying-Yi Nana, hailing from Taiwan, commenced the race in second and third positions, respectively.
As anticipated, the track conditions posed significant challenges to the racers. Notably, racer #08 Nguyen Huu Phap Tri experienced this firsthand, committing a mistake in one of the turns, resulting in his retirement from the race during the first round. Subsequently, all racers proceeded with caution, yet brimming with determination.
In the subsequent races, #40 Trung Kien consistently demonstrated his superior skills, maintaining his outstanding performance throughout the 7 races. Trailing him, #63 Vo Nhat Duy relentlessly pursued Trung Kien, patiently awaiting an opportune moment to launch an attack. The unrelenting pressure compelled #40 Trung Kien to constantly glance backwards, surveilling his opponents while maneuvering each turn.
Nevertheless, no overturns transpired. #40 Nguyen Trung Kien sustained his dominance, achieving another first-place finish and accumulating an additional 16 points, thereby solidifying his leading position in the overall standings with 32 points after 2 rounds. Subsequently, #63 Vo Nhat Duy secured second place. In the initial round, despite garnering 10 points, Nhat Duy failed to reach the podium, concluding the race in fourth place. However, he exhibited remarkable performance in the second round, significantly augmenting his race results.
#82 Truong Duc Tri concluded the race in third place, surpassing numerous other racers. This noteworthy achievement is particularly exceptional as Duc Tri initially finished 10th in the first round. Female racers Nana Ying Yi and Perez Pham Jordi Nam, unfortunately, were unable to secure a spot on the podium.
Raising the gold cup during the initial round evoked profound sentiment within #40 Nguyen Trung Kien, eliciting memories remnant from his early training days. Displaying passion from a tender age, Trung Kien encountered significant adversity, lacking a mentor and financial support to partake in professional training; thus, he resorted to self-study and honing his skills with a school bike.
In 2020, amid the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Trung Kien initiated his venture into the realm of VMRC professional competition. Undeterred by relentless challenges, racer #40 emerged victorious in the initial two rounds of VMRC 2022. Armed with 32 points, Kien triumphs in the NSF100 ranking, generating immense promise as an early talent and a complementary presence within the enthralling and captivating speed racing arena.
