ARRC 2023 Stage 1 – Unleashing Thrilling Emotions with the Jaw-Dropping Performance of the “Madman”

The moment when Vietnamese rider Cao Viet Nam, riding the Honda CBR250RR, crossed the finish line in Race 2 of the 2023 Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC)'s opening round, the entire team burst into celebration. Even the "madman" himself couldn't hold back his emotions, as it marked the first-ever top-four finish for rider number 65 and the Honda Racing Vietnam team in the AP250 category after years of fierce competition in this championship.

The moment Cao Viet Nam (number 65) is about to cross the finish line and lead the top 4 riders in Race 2 of the AP250 category.

“I am extremely excited to be able to compete against the top riders from last season. Being in the top 4 brings me closer to the podium, and I hope in the upcoming races, both myself and the team will strive for even better results,” Cao Viet Nam shared enthusiastically after completing the opening race of ARRC 2023.

“With this new project, we have made significant improvements in the technical aspects, and I am satisfied with what the team has accomplished. We will continue to progress and compete with the top teams in Asia,” added the number 65 rider.

Official results for Race 2: Cao Viet Nam finishes 4th overall.

Let’s revisit the developments of Race 1 of ARRC 2023 at the Chang circuit (Buriram, Thailand). The opening race carried high expectations for the team to compete for top positions and even secure a podium finish in the AP250 category with rider Cao Viet Nam, as indicated by the practice results.

“During practice, Nam has consistently been within the top 5. Along with the fully upgraded CBR250RR, we set ambitious goals for this race,” said Mr. Do Thai Son, Team Manager of Honda Racing Vietnam.

However, the team’s aspirations seemed to suffer a setback during qualifying, as Cao Viet Nam started in 13th position, a challenging position to overcome. The result in Race 1 confirmed this, as “The Madman” finished 8th – a position that was not too shabby, but didn’t entirely satisfy the team’s expectations. The atmosphere in the pit became somber, with few smiles and evasive responses to media inquiries.

“Tomorrow will be different, without a doubt!” Nam declared in the rider’s changing area. Although his face couldn’t completely relax at the time, his determination was clearly evident.

Cao Viet Nam and the entire team accomplished their set goals in the opening race.

In Race 2, right after the first turn, Cao Viet Nam swiftly climbed into the top 10 positions. Race 2 could be described as a “mental battle” for number 65, as he carefully managed the RPM, never pushing it beyond 14,000. He skillfully positioned himself to avoid endurance issues with the CBR250RR, yielding to opponents in the first corners and overtaking them in the final corners.

“Cao Viet Nam is already in the top 6, oh no, now it’s the top 5!” we exclaimed with joy while standing in the corner, overwhelmed by an indescribable feeling. Surpassing expectations, the overall result was even better when the rider ahead was penalized and had their result annulled, promoting Nam to 4th place. At that moment, the atmosphere in the pit area of Honda Racing Vietnam was genuinely jubilant, laughter filling the air. Both “The Madman” and the entire team seemed to have released the pressure that had been building up for so long. Moreover, this accomplishment demonstrated significant progress in technical expertise and racing skills, earning the respect of other teams.

Meanwhile, in his first appearance in the AP250 category, “younger brother” Nguyen Duc Thanh (number 193) struggled against the speed of his opponents, finishing in 20th position in Race 1 and not completing Race 2.

In the UB150 category, Nguyen Anh Tuan (number 178) also failed to achieve the desired results with a 20th position in Race 1 and a 21st position in Race 2. The positive point in the UB150 category was the debut of the 15-year-old rider Nguyen Huu Tri. Although unable to participate in Race 1, safely completing Race 2 was considered a necessary and meaningful experience for Huu Tri.

Nguyen Anh Tuan (number 178) did not achieve the desired results in the UB150 category.

Only 15 years old, Nguyen Huu Tri has made his debut in the ARRC.

At the Chang circuit, Honda Racing Vietnam’s young team gained valuable experience and exposure by participating in the opening race of the Thailand Talent Cup 2023 in the international racing arena. Moreover, Nguyen Anh Phu (number 19) scored 13 points, while Nguyen Vu Phuong (number 10) earned 6 points in their inaugural continental race.

Thus, the first race of the ARRC 2023 Asian motorcycle racing season concluded on a positive note for Honda Racing Vietnam, with the team earning 21 points in the AP250 category with rider Cao Viet Nam, fulfilling their predetermined objectives.
