One thing that can significantly impact motorsport races is rain. The loss of road grip can completely alter the dynamics of the race, leading to unexpected outcomes, especially in the Pro category where most cars are rear-wheel drive.

Despite being widened to lower the center of gravity and reduce body roll at high speeds, these cars struggled to maintain speed on wet tracks due to the lack of traction to control sideways slides.

Most cars in this category are equipped with semi-slick racing tires that have fewer tread grooves and are designed to perform at their best when the tires are hot. Unfortunately, the rain nullified the advantages of these tires, resulting in a significant drop in speed during corners.

In addition, most cars in this category are equipped with racing tires that have fewer water channels and are designed for use in hot conditions. The rain negated the benefits of these tires, causing the cars to lose speed entirely in the corners.

Although not highly regarded in the Pro category, racer Nguyễn Anh Tú – the #1 off-road racer in Vietnam – excelled in the wet conditions. Supported by the Mercedes-AMG A45 with 4Matic, this racer managed to outperform most experienced competitors in the Pro category. However, luck wasn’t on his side in the final race, preventing him from clinching the championship title.

In the FWD (Front-Wheel Drive) category, cars are designed to be less affected by changes in road conditions, and the results truly reflect the skills of the racers. Phạm Hoàng Đức, the top racer in Ho Chi Minh City, secured a comfortable victory over his competitors.

In the RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) and AWD (All-Wheel Drive) category, weather conditions also play a crucial role in determining the outcome. Racer Nguyễn Đăng Quang, with his AUDI TT AWD car, dominated the race, leaving his competitors far behind.

In the Lady of Speed category – a category exclusively for female racers – Trần Hải Yến with her Mitsubishi Attrage emerged victorious, closely followed by racer Phạm Thanh Dung. It’s worth mentioning that, despite racing on the same track as their male counterparts, female racers achieved commendable results and showcased strong track memorization skills. In fact, many male racers took the wrong paths.

Truong Nam Thành, Head of the Organizing Committee, commented: “In racing, there should be no distinction between male and female. Compared to men, women possess more attributes that make them good racers: concentration, attention to detail, memorization ability, precise execution… When women show interest in racing, they progress much faster than men.”

Pro-class champion Anh Vinh, who used a rusty car for the race, shared his thoughts: “The debate on who is faster, which car is better, and the impact of road conditions and weather will never end… But we believe these factors play a role in determining race results. Nonetheless, racing is an exhilarating sport, and if you want to accurately understand these factors, the best way is to become a racer yourself!”
