The Toyota Century SUV has been positioned as a new flagship SUV model in Japan and is advertised as a competitor to the world-famous luxury SUVs like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga. In Japan, the car starts at 25 million Yen (equivalent to 170,000 USD).

At this stage, the Toyota Century SUV is expected to be exclusive to the Japanese market. In fact, the sedan version is also only distributed exclusively in the domestic Japanese market.

Toyota has revealed the Century SUV model with various versions, including a GR Sport version, but currently only the regular version is available.

The Century SUV is equipped with a 3.5L V6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain with a combined total output of 406 horsepower. The powertrain is accompanied by a CVT transmission and the eFour four-wheel drive system. This powertrain is similar to the recently revealed Lexus TX550h+ drivetrain, which is considered a more luxurious version of the Toyota Grand Highlander.

Toyota claims that the Century SUV has an all-electric range of 69 km according to Japan’s WLTC test standard. The car can be fully charged in about 3 hours and 30 minutes with a 200V/30A wall-mounted charger.

The Century SUV offers a range of driving modes, including Normal, Eco, Sport, and notably, the ‘Rear Comfort’ mode which allocates steering and braking force in a way designed not to disturb rear passengers.

The four-wheel steering system provides “easy handling” at low speeds and “smooth, natural handling” in the medium to higher speed range.

The four-seat Century SUV has a length of 5,205 mm, width of 1,990 mm, and height of 1,805 mm, with a wheelbase length of 2,950 mm. This car is shorter by 130 mm, wider by 60 mm, and taller by 300 mm compared to the 5-seater Century sedan model.

In terms of design, the front of the Century SUV stands out with a two-tier LED headlight design, with 4 LED strips in the shape of the letter L inside. The large grille features a honeycomb mesh without the Toyota logo as usual. Instead, the car is equipped with a phoenix logo that has been an icon on the Century sedan since 1967.

On the sides of the car are strong raised lines along with standard 20-inch aluminum wheels. Users can choose the optional larger 22-inch wheels.

In the rear, this luxury SUV also features a two-tier LED taillight design with an “L” shape inside, similar to the headlights.

The Century SUV is offered in iconic two-tone exterior colors like the sedan version. The car has a total of 7 different exterior color combinations.

The interior of the car will focus on the rear passengers. The car features retractable aluminum steps that can be stowed by an electric button, 75-degree opening rear doors, and large door handles for easier passenger access.

The rear seats can be electrically adjusted and fully reclined, allowing users to relax when the car stops. To do this, the front passenger seat will move all the way forward to touch the dashboard.

Other amenities in the second row include a retractable table, two 11.6-inch screens mounted on the front seat headrests, two detachable 5.5-inch touch screen control panels, analog clocks, LED reading lights, and a refrigerator.

In the cockpit area, there is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a heads-up display (HUD), and a 12.3-inch touch screen infotainment display.

In addition, the car features an 18-speaker audio system, a wireless phone charger, digital rearview mirror, heated steering wheel, etc.

The Century SUV has a luggage capacity of 340 liters. The Toyota Century SUV will be sold exclusively at selected dealerships in Japan. Toyota expects to have a basic sales volume of about 30 units per month.
