The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 PHEV is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 536 horsepower.
Mercedes-AMG has recently unveiled the GLE 53 PHEV, available in two variants: the crossover and the crossover-coupe. Both body styles feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 3.0-liter inline-6 petrol engine producing 443 horsepower, complemented by an electric motor. The combined output reaches an impressive 536 horsepower, with a peak torque of 749 Nm.
Thanks to this powertrain, the GLE 53 PHEV accelerates from 0 to 96 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and achieves a top speed of 250 km/h. However, when operating in electric mode, the maximum speed is limited to 140 km/h.
The vehicle is equipped with a 31.2 kWh battery pack, although the electric range has not yet been announced.
Compared to the GLE 53 Hybrid variant introduced earlier this year, the GLE 53 PHEV offers significantly more power. The GLE 53 Hybrid features a mild hybrid powertrain with 429 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque.
Mercedes-AMG has equipped the GLE 53 PHEV with the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system and an AMG Ride Control+ air suspension, which incorporates specially developed adaptive shock absorbers. The vehicle also boasts 15.7-inch front discs and 14.6-inch rear discs with 6-piston calipers. Furthermore, the chassis system of this sporty crossover model has been upgraded, offering new driving modes.
The exterior of the GLE 53 PHEV remains largely unchanged compared to the standard version, with minor adjustments made to the air intakes. The PHEV logo can be found on both the front mudguards and the tailgate. Inside the vehicle, there are specific functions for the hybrid version, as well as a display showing charging speed, status, and battery temperature.
Mercedes-AMG plans to launch the GLE 53 PHEV in the United States by the end of 2025, with sales starting in 2026. Although the exact price has not been announced, the GLE 53 PHEV is expected to be significantly more expensive than the standard version.
