KIA EV5 is unveiling new images of the model cruising the streets of Korea without any camouflage. The car is set to hit the Korean market and other global markets in 2024, with further details to be disclosed in October during the “Kia EV Day” event. Earlier in August 2023, the KIA EV5 made its official debut in China, starting at a price of 159,800 Chinese yuan (approximately 22,000 USD).
In terms of design, the KIA EV5 showcases a modern, dynamic, and distinctive style that closely resembles the concept version. Upon closer inspection, we can observe that the wheels are slightly smaller compared to the concept’s 21-inch wheels, the side mirrors are larger, and the front bumper has undergone some minor adjustments.
Overall, the EV5 appears to be a scaled-down version of the EV9, featuring a more aggressive “tiger face” design. With a length of 4,615 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, the EV5 shares similar dimensions with the Kia Sportage powered by an internal combustion engine, but is 135 mm shorter than the Tesla Model Y.
The Kia EV5 is primarily targeted towards young families, prioritizing practicality alongside its modern, convenient, and sustainable design. Thus, the SUV’s interior is envisioned as an “additional room” for millennial families.
The vehicle boasts more comfortable front seats, an interior ambient lighting system offering 64 colors with adjustable brightness that synchronizes with the driving modes and ADAS system warnings.
The cabin design draws inspiration from the EV9, featuring a wide and minimalist dashboard, along with a panoramic widescreen display that combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. With most controls integrated into the 4-spoke steering wheel, Kia has opted for physical buttons for the air conditioning. Dual USB-C ports, wireless charging capabilities, and multiple storage compartments are also present. The rear seats can be folded flat to facilitate comfortable luggage transportation.
Similar to other electric vehicles in the Hyundai/Kia family, the EV5 is anticipated to utilize the E-GMP platform. As of now, the Korean automaker has not disclosed the specifics of the electric powertrain. However, leaked documents from China indicate that the Chinese-market version of the Kia EV5 will be equipped with a single electric motor producing 215 horsepower and a peak torque of 310 Nm, coupled with a front-wheel-drive system.
