In a recent interview with CarSales magazine in Australia, Karim Habib, Kia’s global design chief, announced that teaser images of the company’s new pickup truck model will be released soon. According to Habib, as designers their role is to serve the brand and customers by creating products that align with the brand’s vision and create a sense of unity within the product lineup.
The new Kia pickup truck, codenamed “TK,” will be developed on a body-on-frame platform, which is rumored to be named Tasman. Kia has already filed trademark registrations for the Tasman name in several countries, including South Korea and Australia.
At this stage, the prototype test images have been based on the Mojave body, making it difficult to predict the final design of the pickup truck. However, it is confirmed that the Kia pickup truck will come with a diesel engine and a double cabin configuration.
The diesel engine will be the same 3.0L V6 engine used in the Mohave, delivering a maximum power output of 257 horsepower. Additionally, rumors suggest that Kia may offer the twin-turbocharged 3.3L V6 gasoline engine from the Stinger for the high-performance variant of the Tasman, targeting competition with models like the Ford Ranger.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Kia pickup truck!
