Based on leaked images, the commercial version of KIA EV5 appears to closely resemble the concept car. KIA has applied the “opposites united” design philosophy to the EV5, combining visual contrasts to achieve a unique and futuristic design. This compact electric crossover features a boxy design, unique 21-inch wheels, and a “Digital Tiger Nose” in the front that is reminiscent of KIA’s distinct tiger nose grille.
One notable feature of the EV5 is the bold and sporty cut lines on both sides of the vehicle. The rear end stands out with its slim LED taillights.
KIA has recently revealed the price and battery information for the EV5 in the domestic and Chinese markets. The starting price for the EV5 in South Korea will be 50 million won ($38,000), and the long-range version will be priced at 57 million won ($43,800).
The EV5 will have a larger battery pack compared to the current EV6 model, with a capacity of 82 kWh. This larger battery pack will enable the EV5 to achieve a maximum range of over 600 km.
In terms of the charging system, KIA has opted for a 400V system instead of the high-voltage 800V system used in other electric vehicles from the Hyundai Motor Group. While the 800V system allows for super-fast charging up to 350 kW, the decision to use a 400V system was made to reduce costs.
Initially, KIA stated that the EV5 would be exclusively available in the Chinese market, with the possibility of expanding to other countries in the future. However, KIA CEO Song Ho-seong recently announced that the EV5 will also be sold in South Korea and other foreign markets. The company is working on various marketing measures to prevent the EV5 from being perceived as exclusively an SUV for the Chinese market.
