China currently holds the title of the largest car market in the world. However, in recent years, the car craze in this densely populated country has been rapidly growing. The collection of Mercedes-Benz cars showcased below serves as concrete evidence of this phenomenon.

Located in Beijing, the capital city of China, this Mercedes-Benz car collection is currently covered in dust. Unfortunately, the owner seems to have little regard for maintaining these beloved vehicles. As a result, the once stunning Mercedes-Benz collection has become a melancholy sight for many.

According to sources, this car collection is owned by the proprietor of a used Mercedes-Benz car repair shop. In China, prior to the 2000s, car dealerships and repair shops were separate entities. This meant that vehicle owners had to visit two different establishments for purchasing and repairing cars, unlike the present-day integrated approach.

The aforementioned Mercedes-Benz repair shop was established in 1989 by the owner’s father, who is also the owner of the car collection. At that time, the shop served as the primary Mercedes-Benz car repair center. Presently, the shop specializes in repairing Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. However, they accept cars for repair regardless of the make or model.

Several employees at the shop are entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of the owner’s car collection. In addition, these employees also repair cars for other collectors, most of whom are Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts.

Mercedes-Benz 190 SL

The collection comprises ten different Mercedes-Benz car models. Notably, the striking red Mercedes-Benz 190 SL stands out amongst others. It is a more affordable alternative compared to the renowned Mercedes-Benz 300SL. Produced between 1955 and 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is powered by a 1.9-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, delivering a maximum of 120 horsepower.

Interior of the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL remains in its original and pristine condition. Regrettably, this particular car is no longer permitted for street use in China. Consequently, the owner has to use temporary license plates whenever they attend events with the car.

Mercedes-Benz 280 S

Another remarkable car in the collection is the Mercedes-Benz 280 S with a reverse steering feature. This car model was produced from 1965 to 1972. The Beijing car utilizes a 2.8-liter inline 6-cylinder gasoline engine, generating a maximum power of 140 horsepower. It originally arrived in China from Hong Kong, hence the inclusion of the reverse steering system.

Mercedes-Benz 350 SEL

Next to the 280S is the Mercedes-Benz 350 SEL, equipped with a V8 engine featuring a 3.5-liter displacement and producing a maximum power of 200 horsepower. The Mercedes-Benz 350 SEL is a well-known car model and was manufactured between 1972 and 1980.

Original intact interior

Within the Mercedes-Benz 350 SEL, the interior appears brand new. The collection owner affirms a buying preference for cars that are still new and possess low mileage. This is primarily due to the intricate challenges involved in restoring extensively used cars. Sourcing replacement parts presents a significant obstacle, particularly for cars that were never officially distributed in China. While the owner attempted to procure parts from eBay, they often fell victim to scams or encountered exorbitant prices.

Mercedes-Benz E500

Another standout in the collection is the aged Mercedes-Benz E500. This vehicle is renowned for its superior performance as a sedan. Developed and produced through a collaborative effort between Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, the E500 employs a V8 engine with a 5.0-liter displacement, delivering a maximum power of 322 horsepower and a peak torque of 480 Nm. The car model was in production between 1991 and 1994.

This is 1 of 5 Mercedes-Benz E500 in China

The Mercedes-Benz E500 is the only vehicle in the collection that remains locked due to the owner’s inability to locate the key. Through the window, one can observe the black leather interior adorned with numerous wooden trim details. According to some sources, only five Mercedes-Benz E500 cars exist in China.

GAZ 21 Volga

Additionally, the collection includes an “outsider” car that originates from Russia, the GAZ 21 Volga. This milky white vehicle was officially imported into China, primarily for government use. Belonging to the third generation of the GAZ 21 Volga series, this car was manufactured from 1962 to 1970, featuring a 4-cylinder engine with a 2.4-liter displacement and delivering a maximum power of 76 horsepower.

The exact amount the collection owner spent to acquire these vintage cars remains undisclosed. However, it may be advisable for the owner to pay closer attention to regularly cleaning and maintaining their vehicles.
