Mitsubishi is committed to introducing more electric car models in the near future, offering Southeast Asia users a wider range of options.
OtoDriver magazine from Indonesia recently reported that Mitsubishi is planning to launch two new electric car models in early 2024. According to the publication, one of these models will be the electric version of the popular MPV Xpander.
Speaking about the upcoming releases, Irwan Kuncoro, the Sales and Marketing Director of Mitsubishi Indonesia, stated that they are planning to unveil a commercial electric car and a travel electric car at the Gaikindo International Auto Show (GIIAS) in 2024.
Furthermore, Mitsubishi Indonesia has confirmed that the new electric car models will be assembled locally to take advantage of the Indonesian government’s incentives for electric cars.
As electric vehicles require substantial development time, it is expected that the Xpander EV showcased at GIIAS 2024 will be a prototype preview rather than a commercial version.
There is also speculation that the Xpander hybrid version will be launched around the same time. This version is predicted to make its debut in early 2024 by Nikkei Asia.
Another vehicle rumored to be unveiled at GIIAS 2024 is the Mitsubishi eK X EV, also known as the “mini Xpander.” The ongoing testing of this car model suggests a high possibility of its launch. Once released, the Mitsubishi eK X EV will directly compete with the Wuling Air EV, a premium version of the Wuling HongGuang MiniEV already available in Vietnam.
