The all-new Range Rover Sport made its global debut on May 10, 2022, in Gaydon, United Kingdom, with a spectacular performance in an unprecedented water plunge challenge in Iceland.

The new Range Rover Sport, a high-performance luxury SUV model, showcased its agility and power as it successfully maneuvered through a challenging water crossing, defying the rushing currents and avoiding a disastrous fall, creating a breathtaking moment during its worldwide unveiling.

The grand event took place at the Karahnjukar Dam, which is known as the largest dam in the world with a flow rate of 750 tonnes per minute. The Range Rover Sport faced the rising floodwaters, risking a dangerous 90-meter fall from the dam’s overflow down to the valley floor if traction was lost.

This third-generation luxury SUV from Land Rover is a dream come true for car enthusiasts, combining advanced technology and powerful performance with its iconic road presence. Equipped with a range of innovative chassis technologies, the Range Rover Sport offers unparalleled flexibility and capability, setting new benchmarks in the SUV segment.

The thrilling water crossing challenge was held at the Jaguar Land Rover Advanced Product Creation Center in Gaydon, UK. Behind the wheel was Jessica Hawkins, the renowned female stunt driver famous for her role as the official stunt driver for James Bond. Her skilled driving showcased the Range Rover Sport’s exceptional grip, traction, performance, and composure, conquering yet another remarkable feat in the history of Land Rover’s high-performance SUV. Previous challenges include setting a hill climb record at Pikes Peak, conquering the ‘Empty Quarter’ desert in the Arabian Peninsula, and the iconic 999-step ascent to the ‘Heaven’s Gate’ in China in 2018.

Mr. Nick Collins, Vehicle Line Director at Jaguar Land Rover, stated: “The Range Rover Sport, built on Land Rover’s pioneering MLA-Flex architecture and equipped with the latest chassis system, offers the highest level of flexibility we have ever seen in this model. Our integrated chassis control system brings significant improvements, combining the latest variable volume air suspension system with Dynamic Response Pro active roll control. These advancements make the Range Rover Sport the most attractive and exciting model to date.”

The overflow dam, the final obstacle before reaching the dam’s peak, presented a formidable challenge to the Range Rover Sport. With its steep incline, rushing water, and the risk of a 90-meter plunge, it demanded precise handling and unwavering confidence from the driver.

Jessica Hawkins, the stunt driver, shared her experience: “The power of the water pouring down from the side of the valley is truly impressive. Driving through it, with the constant awareness of the possibility of a 90-meter drop at the end of the hill, made this the most challenging drive of my career. However, the new Range Rover Sport made this daunting challenge look easy. Its exceptional traction, composure, and all-round visibility gave me the confidence and inspiration to enjoy the entire experience.”

The all-new Range Rover Sport is built on Land Rover’s advanced Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex), offering a versatile platform for exceptional dynamics and refinement. It features powerful and efficient drivetrains, including two 6-cylinder plug-in hybrid engines that provide a pure electric driving range of up to 113 km (70 miles) and low CO2 emissions starting from just 18g/km1.

In addition, the Range Rover Sport is powered by a new 530PS Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine, delivering impressive sports car performance with a 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) acceleration time of 4.5 seconds (4.3 seconds with Dynamic Launch feature).
