The decision to postpone the Formula 1 Hanoi race (scheduled to take place from April 3-5, 2020) was made after extensive discussions and careful consideration between the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Formula One World Championship Ltd – the governing body of Formula 1 (F1), the People’s Committee of Hanoi, the Vietnam Motor Sports Association (VMA), and with the agreement of Vietnam Grand Prix Company (VGPC).

This is a difficult decision as 2020 is the first year Vietnam becomes an official member among 22 countries hosting the most professional and attractive motor racing event on the planet. To prepare for the race, VGPC, with the support of the People’s Committee of Hanoi, has made efforts to invest in infrastructure, technology, and engineering to meet the strictest requirements of F1 and FIA. The Formula 1 race track in My Dinh, built to international standards, has been completed and is ready for operation.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic is currently having complex developments and the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Covid-19 as a global pandemic. Therefore, the Formula 1 VinFast Vietnam Grand Prix race has to be postponed to ensure the safety of the people, attendees, racing teams, and accompanying units.

FIA, F1, the People’s Committee of Hanoi, VMA, and VGPC will continue to closely coordinate and monitor the progress of the Covid-19 pandemic to choose a different, safe, and suitable time for the race and will announce it in a timely manner to the public. Policies related to customers, accompanying units, and partners of VGPC will also be notified as soon as possible.

The 2020 Formula 1 VinFast Vietnam Grand Prix is one of the most anticipated races this season. FIA, F1, the People’s Committee of Hanoi, VMA, and VGPC will make every effort so that when the Covid-19 pandemic is brought under control, it will be the moment when the F1 race shines on the track in Hanoi, meeting the expectations of racing teams and Vietnamese and global fans.
