Hyundai Thanh Cong distributor is seriously considering the water ability of Genesis G80 EV, a South Korean luxury electric sedan model.

On the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Hyundai Thanh Cong automobile manufacturing plant HTMV 2 in Gian Khau Industrial Zone, Gia Vien, Ninh Binh; the distributor has strategically arranged a fleet of luxury cars – belonging to the highest-end product line of the Genesis brand – including G90 Limousine, G90, and G80 EV electric version. This modern luxury fleet stood out at the inauguration ceremony.

During the opening ceremony of the HTMV 2 plant complex, representatives from South Korea revealed their plans to assemble two remarkable electric cars – Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid (plug-in hybrid version) – right at the company’s plant complex in Ninh Binh province. According to dealer sources, the Genesis luxury trio consisting of G90, G90 Limousine, and G80 EV is also being considered for the Vietnamese market.

If this plan comes to fruition, it will be a significant milestone that demonstrates the Vietnamese market’s position and development speed in the eyes of international investors, particularly the South Korean giant brand – owner of globally renowned brands such as Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis. The Vietnamese market is no longer limited to the mid-range segment; there is great potential among wealthy and young consumers that the company can explore for business purposes.

The Genesis G80 EV is a high-end electric sedan model. It has overall dimensions of 5,005 x 1,925 x 1,475 mm. The G80 EV’s wheelbase measures 3,010mm, equivalent to the internationally renowned Mercedes-Benz EQE from the German three-pointed star brand. The version displayed by HTV in Ninh Binh on November 15 features a white exterior paint color with a two-tone interior.

According to information released from South Korea, the Genesis G80 EV is equipped with two 136kW electric motors, both front and rear, forming an AWD drivetrain with a total output of up to 272 kW (equivalent to 365 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. It also features an 87.2 kWh Lithium-Ion battery system and a range of advanced operating technologies, such as regenerative braking, an electronically adjustable suspension system, multiple driving modes, a thermal energy pump system, and an automatic battery drying system. The car’s electric charging port is cleverly integrated behind the diamond-shaped grille at the front of the car.

In terms of design, the Genesis G80 EV incorporates a sophisticated and modern design language, similar to its famous siblings within the family such as the G90 and GV90 SUV. The highlight is the full LED lighting system from front to back with a beautiful dual-stripe design. Notable exterior features include large Michelin branded tires up to 19 inches and elegant turbine-style multi-spoke wheels.

The car is equipped with a two-layer soundproof, heat-insulating, and UV-resistant glass system. Chrome strips adorn the car from the front, along the body, and around the windows to the rear of the car. The car’s tail does not have exhaust pipes, but small air vents are retained to enhance the sportiness and youthfulness of the electric sedan.

As a luxury model, the Genesis G80 EV’s interior is flooded with premium materials including Nappa leather, glossy wood, and metallic aluminum trim details. It features an interior ambient lighting system and intricate stitching details, showcasing the position and class of the passengers.

Genesis G80 EV incorporates many modern technologies, such as an 8-inch display screen behind the steering wheel, an electronic Shift-By-Wire gear shift knob, a Genesis Touch Controller multifunction touch control knob, and a power adjustment system for energy recovery through the accelerator. It offers similar features as its sibling IONIQ 5, which allows controlling the car with just one pedal for both acceleration and braking.

The luxury level of the car is evident through a remarkable range of convenient features, including wireless charging, digital smart key, touch-sensitive door handles, electric child lock control, power-adjustable heated steering wheel, independent dual-zone air conditioning with air filtration, and special V2L function that provides reverse power to electrical devices (also present in its sibling IONIQ 5).

The car also features a versatile entertainment display screen with a width of up to 14.5 inches spanning the dashboard, along with a premium Lexicon 17-speaker entertainment surround sound system. It offers accompanying subscription services, a convenient Genesis Car Pay payment solution, valet parking mode, streaming music entertainment service, and wireless software update capability.

In the luxury car segment, safety features are a mandatory requirement, and they are emphasized in the Genesis G80 EV. These features include a high-speed driving assistance package with intelligent cruise control (including stop & go function), lane-keeping assist, rear traffic monitoring, front and rear collision avoidance assistance, and blind spot warning. The car is also equipped with 10 airbags, anti-pinch windows, power trunk, vibrating steering wheel warning, intelligent headlights, driver attention monitoring, and multiple collision avoidance automatic braking.

The comfort prioritized for the passengers is evident in the seats of the Genesis G80 EV. The car features natural leather seats, and all 4 seats can be 12-way power-adjustable with memory and heating function. The front seats have ventilation, while the front and rear seats have additional lumbar support. The car also offers automatic retractable seats and steering wheel when entering and exiting the car, and the rear seats can fold flat through the trunk for long items.

Users can choose from a range of optional amenities, such as a head-up display (HUD) windshield, sunroof, premium 18-way power-adjustable ERGO driver’s seat with massage function, a 12.3-inch size 3D display behind the steering wheel, power-adjustable curtains, an in-car camera, and paint protective film.

While the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid are confirmed to enter the Vietnamese market in 2023, the arrival of the Genesis G90, G90 Limousine, and particularly the G80 EV is still uncertain. Hopefully, the market will soon see this additional option, creating competition with the Mercedes-Benz EQS and heating up the luxury electric vehicle segment.
