For the 2021 Formula 1 season, Aston Martin will provide safety and medical cars for most races. Mercedes-Benz will also contribute, supplying cars for select races.

The Vantage will serve as the F1 safety car, while the DBX, Aston Martin’s first-ever SUV, will be the medical car. Both vehicles have been modified and finished in Racing Green, the same color as the Aston Martin Formula One Racing Team car.

The Vantage features a twin-turbocharged M177 4.0-liter V8 engine sourced from AMG. It has been tuned to produce 535 PS, 25 PS more than the standard, to ensure consistent speed on the race track. The drivetrain has been enhanced for improved controllability and driving feel.

Aerodynamic changes include a Vaned radiator grille and a front splitter, generating 155.6 kg of downforce at speeds over 200 km/h. Suspension, steering, and damper systems have also been modified, along with the underfloor system to increase front-end structural rigidity.

The Vantage is equipped with lower-profile Pirelli tires, as well as a carbon ceramic braking system with additional cooling ducts for brake cooling. It also features a rear wing, warning light system, FIA identification numbers, and an illuminated “Safety Car” panel.

The interior of the safety car has FIA-approved racing seats, six-point safety harnesses, and two screens on the dashboard for displaying relevant information. The center console has been modified to accommodate a switch panel and a camera for live broadcast footage. The safety car will be driven by the FIA-appointed driver Bernd Maylander and former racing driver Richard Darker.

The DBX, used as the medical car, features the same M177 engine with 550 PS and 700 Nm of torque. It carries essential medical equipment and six-point safety harnesses.

Like the safety car, the DBX has two screens mounted on the dashboard for live race footage, as well as a screen for reading biometric data from the driver’s gloves, providing crucial information about their condition in case of an accident.

Both cars are equipped with a “Marshalling System” and a rear-view camera, allowing the driver and co-driver to see the displayed flag on the race track. The Aston Martin safety and medical cars will make their first appearance during a pre-season test in Bahrain and will be present for the season-opening event.
