Rolls-Royce has introduced the limited edition Ghost Black Badge model, taking inspiration from the extraordinary occurrence of a total solar eclipse. Fully named the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection, this exclusive edition exhibits some remarkable features.
One of the standout elements of this car is the animated Starlight Headliner. Upon starting the engine or closing the door, a circle of 940 stars illuminates the ceiling, mimicking the floral crown of the sun seen during a total solar eclipse. This mesmerizing effect lasts for precisely 7 minutes and 31 seconds, symbolizing the duration of the longest total eclipse.
A dark copper paint color, named Lyrical Copper, adorns the body of this limited edition Rolls-Royce Ghost. Additionally, the British automaker has added Mandarin orange accents to certain details such as the wheel lock caps, front air intakes, coachline, and brake calipers.
Inside the cabin, Mandarin orange is utilized for the 200,000 individual perforations on the seats. This contrasting color scheme beautifully complements the premium black leather.
The passenger side dashboard boasts 1,846 laser-engraved stars, creating a captivating “total eclipse effect”.
In addition to these striking features, a specially crafted watch accompanies this special edition Ghost. Adorned with a 0.5-carat diamond, the watch represents a bright spot on the rim of the moon during a solar eclipse—an exceptional integration of precious stones into a timepiece by Rolls-Royce.
This watch has undergone rigorous adhesion tests by the British luxury brand to ensure the diamond remains secure. Temperatures ranging from -30 degrees Celsius to 90 degrees Celsius were tested to guarantee its durability.
The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective dedicated over 100 hours to perfecting the pattern on the dashboard, ensuring the most meticulous and flawless finish. Similarly, the watch underwent 14 iterations to deliver an impeccable product.
Rolls-Royce has announced that only 25 units of the Ghost Black Badge Ékleipsis will be produced globally, and all of them have already been reserved by fortunate owners. The car’s launch coincided with the annual solar eclipse on October 14, which exhibited a captivating “ring of fire” effect in certain regions of the Western Hemisphere.
Stars have served as a recurring theme in Rolls-Royce’s design inspirations. In 2021, the brand introduced the Phantom Tempus, fusing stars, time, and the universe into the motifs of the car.
The Ékleipsis edition is based on the Ghost Black Badge model, equipped with a twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12 engine producing an impressive 592 horsepower. All-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission ensure a smooth and powerful driving experience, complemented by the bespoke Ghost suspension system.
