Peugeot 408 is set to make its official debut in Vietnam on October 21st. Thaco, the distributor, has yet to release any official information regarding this model. However, social media has been abuzz with a leaked specification sheet for the Peugeot 408 in our country.
According to the leaked source, the Peugeot 408 will come in three versions: Allure, Premium, and GT. It is positioned as a C-segment SUV with dimensions of 4,687 x 1,850 x 1,510 (mm). The wheelbase measures 2,787 mm, and it boasts a ground clearance of 189 mm.
All three versions of the Peugeot 408 feature a 1.6 Turbo PureTech engine with a maximum power output of 218 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm between 2,000 – 4,500 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and comes with front-wheel drive. Previously, there were rumors circulating that the car would be equipped with a turbocharged petrol engine, displacing 1.2L and delivering a modest power output of only 130 horsepower and a maximum torque of 230 Nm.
In terms of its exterior, the top-of-the-line Peugeot 408 GT is equipped with Matrix LED headlights, a body-colored grille, and 20-inch wheels. The other two versions come with regular LED headlights, a chrome-plated grille, and 18-inch wheels.
As for the interior, the Peugeot 408 GT boasts three screens, including a 10-inch entertainment screen, an instrument panel, and a 9.6-inch feature screen. The two lower versions do not come with the third screen.
Furthermore, according to leaked specifications, the top-of-the-line Peugeot 408 will feature power-adjustable front seats with massage function and interior accent lighting. These are typically high-end features seen in expensive models and are rarely found in mainstream C-segment SUVs.
Even the standard version of the Peugeot 408 comes equipped with an active safety package that includes lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and active braking. Additionally, the car is fitted with rear parking sensors and a 180-degree reversing camera.
In the two higher versions, the safety package is further enhanced with features like adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, cross-traffic alert when reversing, and lane change assistance system.
The expected price range for the Peugeot 408 is from 999 million to 1.249 billion VND. Once launched, this SUV model from the French brand will compete against rivals in the C-segment SUV segment, including the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Territory, and more.
