Despite initially being available only in China, the Kia EV5 is set to be released worldwide, as confirmed by Kia. More information will be revealed during the Kia EV Day event in October.

Remaining true to Kia’s promise, the commercial version closely resembles the previously introduced concept version. Upon closer observation, we notice that the wheels feature a futuristic design, albeit slightly smaller than the 21-inch wheels of the concept version. The side mirrors have been enlarged, and there have been some minor tweaks to the front bumper.

Overall, the EV5 bears a resemblance to a smaller version of the EV9, showcasing a more aggressive “tiger face” design. With a length of 4,615 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, the EV5 shares similar dimensions with the Kia Sportage powered by an internal combustion engine, but is 135 mm shorter than the Tesla Model Y.

The target market for the Kia EV5 is young families who value both practicality and modern design, alongside convenience and sustainability. Consequently, the SUV’s interior is designed to function as a “supplementary living space” for millennial families.

Passenger seats in the front are more comfortable, while the 64-color interior ambient lighting system adapts its brightness according to driving modes and system warnings from the ADAS.

The cabin space takes inspiration from the EV9, featuring a wide and minimalist dashboard, as well as a panoramic widescreen display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The four-spoke steering wheel incorporates most of the control buttons, with physical buttons for the air conditioning. Additionally, there are dual USB-C ports, wireless charging, and multiple storage compartments. The rear seats can be folded flat to maximize cargo space.

Like other models in the Hyundai/Kia electric vehicle lineup, the EV5 is expected to utilize the E-GMP platform. However, Kia has not yet disclosed the specifications of the electric drivetrain. Leaked documents from China suggest that the Chinese market version of the Kia EV5 will feature a single electric motor producing 215 horsepower and a maximum torque of 310 Nm, paired with a front-wheel drive system.
