There have been many rumors circulating about the new Toyota Fortuner, third generation, in recent months. Although an official announcement has not yet been made by the Japanese car manufacturer, it is anticipated that the global launch will take place next year.
Just a few weeks ago, an image supposedly showing the 2024 Toyota Fortuner was leaked online. Although the authenticity of the image has not been confirmed, it does provide a glimpse into the expected design of the next-generation Fortuner. Notably, the front of the vehicle appears to have undergone significant changes, incorporating new design elements that give the car a more athletic appearance compared to the current model.
The prominent front section of the car showcases a grille with three horizontal bars, including the iconic Toyota emblem in the center. Surrounding the grille is a thick, hexagonal metal frame. The headlights have been sharpened and now feature integrated LED daytime running lights. The bonnet has a muscular contour, while new fog lights, prominent wheel arches, and redesigned alloy wheels contribute further to the updated aesthetic.
Other exterior features include body-colored door handles, black-painted pillars, chrome window trim, a nearly flat roofline with robust roof rails, new taillights, sturdy step boards, and an integrated roof spoiler. Some sources have suggested that the upcoming Fortuner will have larger dimensions than the current model, potentially due to its development on the TNGA-F ladder frame chassis. Additionally, it is hoped that the SUV will be equipped with a sunroof and other premium features such as ADAS.
It is anticipated that the design of the 2024 Toyota Fortuner will take inspiration from the recently launched next-generation Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. If this proves to be true, the new Fortuner will exude an even sportier and more aggressive aesthetic than what is presented in the leaked rendering.
Inside the vehicle, significant changes are expected, including a larger touchscreen display, a new digital instrument cluster, and a redesigned center control cluster.
Under the hood, the 2024 Fortuner will be equipped with an electrified powertrain. This powertrain will consist of a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine combined with hybrid technology. Detailed performance specifications have yet to be disclosed. Toyota estimates that the addition of mild-hybrid technology will enhance fuel efficiency by approximately 10% when compared to the non-hybrid variant. Given the increasingly stringent emission standards being implemented worldwide, the integration of an electrified powertrain is a crucial step for the Fortuner.
