During the launch event in August for the new generation Land Cruiser Prado, Toyota surprised everyone by announcing that they will be introducing a new SUV in the near future, which is being considered as the mini Toyota Land Cruiser.
Up until now, the Japanese automobile manufacturer has only revealed the name of this mysterious new model, called the Toyota Land Hopper. It is expected that this model will be officially launched at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 exhibition, taking place from October 26th to November 5th.
Toyota has also filed a trademark for the name Land Hopper, although it is possible that this name will only be used in certain markets such as Japan. In other markets, the vehicle might be given different names.
The car is being developed based on the Compact Cruiser EV concept car that was launched in 2021. The Land Hopper will be positioned in the SUV segment, with an expected size similar to that of the Corolla Cross. It is speculated that this compact and adventurous SUV will have dimensions of approximately 4,490 x 1,800 x 1,850 mm (length x width x height) respectively.
It is highly likely that the Toyota Land Hopper will feature a separate frame, which will enhance its performance on challenging terrains.
Based on the teaser image shown during the Land Cruiser Prado launch event, it can be seen that this new car has a square and rugged design, resembling the Compact Cruiser EV concept car that was introduced in 2021.
According to several news sources, the Toyota Land Hopper will offer various engine options. It is possible that the car will be equipped with a 4-cylinder engine, featuring a displacement of 1.8L, as well as a hybrid powertrain that includes a 2.0L gasoline engine, similar to the Toyota Corolla Cross.
The car might also share a 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.0L, along with a hybrid powertrain that includes a 2.5L gasoline engine, similar to the Toyota RAV4.
There is a strong possibility that the car will also come with a hybrid powertrain, featuring a 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.5L. In the future, an all-electric version of the Land Hopper might also be added to the lineup.
The Toyota Land Hopper is expected to be officially available for purchase by the middle of 2024, with prices ranging from 3 to 3.8 million yen (equivalent to 488.5 – 619 million VND).
