The Land Cruiser EV disappoints off-road enthusiasts since it is developed based on a monocoque chassis instead of a separate frame.
Despite being the leading car manufacturer globally, Toyota has been relatively slow in the electric vehicle segment. Some of the recently launched pure electric car models from this Japanese brand, such as bZ4X or bZ3, have been rated as less appealing compared to their competitors in the same segment. However, everything might change completely with the introduction of the Land Cruiser electric version.
In a recent announcement, Toyota stated that they will unveil an all-electric variant of the Land Cruiser during the Japan Car Exhibition, happening from October 26 to November 5. The Land Cruiser, which first debuted in 1951, heralded a new era of success for Toyota, and many anticipate that the electric version of this SUV will do the same for the brand’s future.
The Land Cruiser EV is positioned in the large SUV segment with three rows of seats. According to the announcement, this model boasts dimensions of 5,149 x 1,981 x 1,701 mm in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm. Thus, compared to the currently available Land Cruiser LC300, this electric SUV is significantly larger.
In terms of appearance, the Land Cruiser EV features a completely different design compared to its internal combustion engine counterpart. The front of the car impresses with its closed grille, slim headlights, and the TOYOTA logo. At the rear, the car is equipped with slim LED taillights that span across the tailgate. Additionally, the wheel arches are sculpted to create a rugged feel for this electric SUV.
Toyota has yet to release the technical specifications of the Land Cruiser EV, but it is speculated that this model will adopt a unibody frame instead of a separate one like the gasoline version. The manufacturer also revealed that the Land Cruiser EV will feature a suspension system suitable for urban mobility and provide high torque.
Currently, there is no information regarding the expected launch date and price of the Land Cruiser EV. Nevertheless, considering the Land Cruiser’s position as one of Toyota’s premium products, it is unlikely to be sold at a low price.
