Toyota has partnered with Suzuki to develop a small electric crossover, as reported by Carscoops. The model is expected to be released in 2025 and is based on the Toyota bZ Small Crossover Concept.
Initially, Toyota is focusing on serving the domestic market, but there are possibilities for global availability, including in Europe, according to the Japanese magazine Best Car. Suzuki was chosen as the ideal partner due to their expertise in producing small cars.
The Toyota bZ Small Crossover is part of Toyota and Lexus’s lineup of 15 concept models that were unveiled in December 2021. The model is designed with a particular focus on the European and Japanese markets. Specific technical specifications of the commercial version have not been disclosed, but it will be developed based on the eTNGA architecture and target an energy consumption of 125 Wh/km. In terms of size, it is larger than the Toyota Aygo X (3,700 mm) but smaller than the Yaris Cross (4,180 mm).
Toyota’s launch of the small electric crossover coincides with the expected launch time of Suzuki’s eVX. While these two models are not related, Suzuki may leverage their cooperative relationship with Toyota to introduce a new line of cars based on the bZ Small Crossover in the future.
Direct competitors for the commercial version of the Toyota bZ Small Crossover include the already released Hyundai Casper and the upcoming VW ID.1, set to be unveiled in 2026.
