Toyota Yaris Cross has recently been introduced to the Thai market on October 5th, following its debut in other Southeast Asian markets like Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. This B-segment SUV has quickly gained popularity in the second largest automotive market in Southeast Asia.

Within just 7 days of its launch, the Toyota Yaris Cross has already received 5,168 orders in Thailand. This comes as no surprise as there is a high demand for hybrid vehicles in the country. Unlike the models in Indonesia or Vietnam, the Thai market only offers the hybrid version of this B-segment SUV without a petrol engine.

The Toyota Yaris Cross becomes an instant hit in the second largest automotive market in Southeast Asia

The Toyota Yaris Cross in Thailand is powered by a 4-cylinder 1.5L petrol engine, generating a maximum power of 91 horsepower and a peak torque of 121 Nm. It is combined with an 80 horsepower/141 Nm electric motor, a lithium-ion battery, and an E-CVT transmission. Overall, this hybrid powertrain delivers a maximum power of 111 horsepower. The car offers 3 driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Despite being a hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Yaris Cross in Thailand has a significantly lower price compared to the one in Vietnam. In the Thai market, it comes in 3 trim levels: Smart, Premium, and Premium Luxury, with prices ranging from 789,000 to 899,000 Baht (approximately 521 – 593 million VND). In Vietnam, the prices range from 730 to 850 million VND.

Similar to the Vietnamese model, the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross in Thailand is equipped with full-LED headlights, full-LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, LED front fog lights, and 17-inch one-tone alloy wheels even in the standard version.

In addition, the mid-range Premium version of the car comes with 2-tone sporty 17-inch alloy wheels. The highest Premium Luxury version is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, welcome lights integrated into the exterior rearview mirror, and a power-operated tailgate with a trunk sensor.

Inside the car, the Toyota Yaris Cross in Thailand features synthetic leather seats, a manually adjustable 6-way driver seat, a 7-inch multi-information display, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, electronic parking brake, temporary brake hold, automatic air conditioning, PM2.5 air filter, rear passenger air vents, 2 front USB ports, 2 rear USB ports, a smart key, and a push-button start in the standard version. The top-of-the-line version adds an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, wireless smartphone charging, a Pioneer 6-speaker sound system, and a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade.

However, unlike the Vietnamese version, the standard version of the Toyota Yaris Cross in Thailand does not come with active safety features (ADAS). Instead, it is equipped with 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, an ABS system, electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist (BA), electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and a reverse camera.

From the Premium trim level onwards, the car is equipped with adaptive cruise control, automatic headlights, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and prevention, lane keeping assist, front sensors, front cameras, blind-spot warning, rear-cross traffic alert, and throttle control. The top-end version of the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross also adds a 360-degree camera and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Active safety features are only available in the 2 premium versions of the Toyota Yaris Cross in Thailand

In its first month of sales in Vietnam, the Toyota Yaris Cross achieved a total of 180 units sold. Although not a high number, it is quite promising considering the car was just launched in Vietnam on September 19, 2023, and its relatively high price compared to other vehicles in the segment.
