The 2020 VMRC season concluded with a heart-stopping finale at Dai Nam racetrack, filled with intense and gripping moments. The talented racers delivered a jaw-dropping and adrenaline-pumping performance, leaving the spectators in complete awe after months of anticipation. As the race reached its climax, the deserving champions in each category started to emerge, marking an unforgettable end to an incredible season.

Stage 5 began with the qualifying race, which set the stage for the official race. The winners of the previous stage secured pole positions for their respective categories. William Vinh (NSF 100), Phan Minh Phung (Blade 110), Nguyen Duc Thanh (MSX 125), Nguyen Nhut Linh (Winner 150), and Le Phung (UB 130) were the drivers who earned pole positions.

The qualifying race of Stage 5 was not particularly eventful, perhaps due to the drivers’ rustiness after a two-month break or strategic calculations, considering it was the final stage. However, the drivers’ performance transformed in the official race, providing a fierce, intense, and surprising spectacle for the audience.

In the Honda NSF 100 category – Vietnam Talent Cup, it was William Vinh’s bittersweet farewell and the champion’s bravery.

Unfortunately, Stage 5 marked the end of young racer William Vinh’s participation in the championship as he will be studying in the US. As a farewell, he gave it his all in the qualifying session and secured a deserving pole position.

William Vinh bid farewell to the championship in a modest yet beautiful manner, deserving a smile.

In the official race, William Vinh had a strong start and took the lead. However, he faced tough competition from “boss” Nguyen Ton Anh Phu, who quickly rose to the top spot with his excellent technical skills. While Anh Phu pulled away, Vinh seemed tense and anxious. After being overtaken by Anh Phu, he could only follow weakly for about half a lap.

Anh Phu continued his championship lead with 57 points.

Besides the mental aspect, Vinh’s physical condition proved to be a disadvantage. He was heavier than his competitors, and as a result, he faced fierce pursuit from Nguyen Tran Duc Tai after three laps. By the sixth lap, Duc Tai had taken second place from Vinh, prompting intense duels between the two racers. However, Vinh’s breath started to fade by the eighth lap, and Duc Tai overtook him while Anh Phu remained faultless at the top. In the end, Anh Phu secured his third consecutive stage win, with Duc Tai finishing second and Vinh settling for third.

With this result, Anh Phu almost secured the championship with 57 points. Tran Le Minh Tu followed in second place with 44 points, and William Vinh finished third with 41 points. While Duc Tai still has hopes for the championship, even the most optimistic individuals must admit that it is unlikely he can snatch it from Anh Phu’s grasp. As for William Vinh, he bid farewell to the championship in a modest yet beautiful manner, deserving a smile.

In the Blade 110 category, it was the “dark horse” Tr?n Nguy?n Phuong An

Before Stage 5, Phan Minh Phung dominated the Blade 110 category with three consecutive wins. With the pole position in Stage 5, many expected Minh Phung to extend his winning streak. This prediction held true in the first six rounds of the race, with Minh Phung comfortably maintaining a safe distance from the field while Minh Tri raced in second place.

Phuong An broke Minh Phung’s winning streak, clinching first place in the stage.

However, everything changed after a mistake in the seventh lap. Minh Phung couldn’t hold on to his position against the other top racers and faced fierce attacks in every turn. Behind him, Phuong An executed a wise racing strategy, avoiding direct confrontations, taking wider turns, and quickly accelerating in the straight sections. He capitalized on moments when Minh Tri and Minh Phung were engaged in close competition, overtaking Minh Phung and assuming second place in the process.

Minh Phung maintained his championship lead with 61 points.

Phuong An no longer held back and directly engaged Minh Phung, especially in straight sections. By the ninth round, after a turn following a long straight, Phuong An officially overtook Minh Phung, igniting an exciting duel between the two racers. Phuong An played a practical game, aiming to prevent Minh Phung from overtaking rather than focusing on accelerating. Although Minh Phung managed to overtake and lead at certain moments, Phuong An immediately countered. Ultimately, Phuong An won the stage, ending Minh Phung’s winning streak. Minh Phung finished second, and Minh Tri secured third place. Speaking of Minh Tri, as a Wild Cat racer, this marks a surprising achievement in his first championship appearance. Hopefully, Minh Tri will become an official racer of VMRC in the next season.

The recently concluded race day in the Blade 110 category highlighted Minh Phung’s self-blame for making mistakes on a day when Phuong An raced incredibly cold and efficiently, resulting in a closely contested Stage 5.

In this category, Minh Phung still leads the championship with 61 points, followed by Pham Thanh Bao, who finished second in the stage and climbed to second place in the overall standings with 47 points. While Dong Nghi still holds championship hopes, it is evident that only something extraordinary can prevent Minh Phung from clinching the title. Phuong An, on the other hand, bids farewell to the stage victoriously but with little chance of winning the championship.

In the MSX 125 category, the cup goes to Nguyen Duc Thanh

Duc Thanh secured pole position and dominated the race.

Many jokingly claim that in the MSX 125 category this year, everyone is just waiting to see how Nguyen Duc Thanh will win first place. And in Stage 5, these expectations were once again “fulfilled” as the script played out as expected: Duc Thanh secured the pole position and dominated the race.

Perhaps the only surprising aspect of this stage was Nguyen Nhat Truong’s subpar performance despite starting in second position. This result essentially eliminated his championship hopes. Pham Thanh Bao, on the other hand, delivered an excellent performance, finishing second and climbing to second place overall with 47 points, only 14 points behind Duc Thanh.

In the Winner 150 category, chaos reigns

Before Stage 5, the Winner 150 category was the most intense, with five racers vying for the championship. The points gap between them ranged from zero to four. After Stage 5, the situation remained unclear.

Due to fierce competition, Stage 5 in the Winner 150 category was filled with strategic moves. Nhat Linh surprisingly secured pole position, and Ngoc Nhan, the previous standings leader with 33 points, seemed more focused on winning the championship rather than the stage. Dong Nghi, Truong Giang, and Tien Thanh, the closest competitors with 32, 32, and 30 points respectively, started in fourth, sixth, and eighth positions. Thus, Dong Nghi became Ngoc Nhan’s biggest threat from all aspects.

An interesting aspect is that Ngoc Nhan held the championship lead for three weeks without securing any podium finishes. In contrast, Dong Nghi, in second place, had the most podium finishes with two first-place finishes, though he finished in second place in Stage 2 due to a crash. Clearly, Dong Nghi, not Ngoc Nhan, has the highest chance of winning. However, calculations seem to have affected his performance, and Ngoc Nhan gradually fell behind after each round, even failing to crack the top nine, resulting in a significant setback in the championship race.

During this time, Dang Khoa maintained focused and determined performance. Despite starting in fifth position, he progressively improved and, by the tenth round, overtook Nhat Linh to win the stage. Nhat Linh finished second, and Hoang Tien surpassed Truong Giang to secure third place.

With this result, Dang Khoa took the overall lead with 45 points, while Truong Giang finished fourth with 42 points and Dong Nghi settled for fifth with an additional nine points, dropping to third place with 41 points. With Ngoc Nhan and Tien Thanh failing to achieve good results in Stage 5, it can be concluded that the championship race in the Winner 150 category now involves three contenders.

Stage 5 also witnessed a contentious incident involving Ngoc Nhan and Dong Nghi, with the former accused of foul play. After the race, the two racers exchanged remarks on social media. A verdict is pending, and if Ngoc Nhan is found to have violated the rules, he will face severe penalties and a forgettable end to his championship hopes.

In the UB 130 category, it was Phuc Barcelona’s “Pink Night”

Phuc Barcelona entered the championship in Stage 2 and quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in VMRC. Upon joining, the club acquired two talented racers, Le Hung Huu Tin and Le Phung. Before Stage 5, Le Hung Huu Tin led the standings with 37 points.

In previous stages, Phuc Barcelona did not stand out compared to Thiên Lê Racing or Ph? Tùng AE ÐNÁ. However, in Stage 5, they transformed completely, challenging the aforementioned clubs for the third position. Their vehicles were superior, and the club’s racers, Le Hung Huu Tin and Le Phung, took the lead without facing any significant obstacles.

This surprising turn of events marked the first time fans witnessed a lackluster UB130 race. Thiên Lê Racing and Ph? Tùng AE ÐNÁ, despite their reputation, paled in comparison to the strength exhibited by the Phuc Barcelona duo.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Anh Tuan, despite a commendable performance, had to settle for competing for third place against Minh Sang. Anh Tuan ultimately secured the final podium spot.

With the conclusion of Stage 5, Huu Tin maintained his lead with 53 points, followed by Trong Vinh and Minh Sang with 42 and 41 points respectively. This stage result officially ended Nguyen Anh Tuan’s championship aspirations. It was an unfortunate season for him, with his vehicle breaking down in the third round when he was leading.

Stage 5 of VMRC 2020 concluded with a plethora of emotions. It seemed like a gift from the organizers and Honda Vietnam to viewers on the occasion of the new year 2021 and to welcome the Year of the Buffalo. Only one more race remains to conclude the VMRC 2020 championship. Hopefully, the closing ceremony will be even more spectacular, providing a fitting end to a season that took place in a truly unique year. See you all again in March 2021.
