With the rapid advancement of technology, companies are constantly upgrading their naked bike offerings in the motorcycle segment, attracting a large number of customers. Ducati, Kawasaki, and Yamaha, in particular, are continuously introducing innovative changes to their models.
In November of last year, Yamaha unveiled the new and improved MT-10 2022 model, aimed at directly competing with heavyweight rivals such as the Honda CB1000R, KTM 890 Duke R, Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS, and Kawasaki Z1000.
Currently, the Yamaha MT-10 2022 naked bike is available in three price levels: VND 469 million, VND 499 million, and the most expensive variant, the Yamaha MT-10 SP 2022, is priced at VND 569 million. This article will focus on the latter.
The Origin of the Yamaha MT-10 Series
Previously known as the FZ-10 or FZ1, the Yamaha MT-10 has been given a new name, aligning it with its siblings in the Masters of Torque family, including the MT-03, MT-07, and MT-09.
The Design of the Yamaha MT-10 2022
The 2022 MT-10 boasts a unique design, setting it apart from other MT models. It features a muscular front end with LED position lights and a bi-LED headlight that resembles characters from the famous Transformers movie. The bike also comes with a front fairing and two large air intakes on the sides.
The slim fuel tank cover fits snugly against the rider’s thigh, while the seat is covered with leather. The seat height has been increased by 5mm compared to the previous version.
The rear end of the MT-10 has been redesigned to give it a more compact look, featuring a new taillight cluster bearing the MT logo, similar to the MT-09 but larger in size.
Overall, the bike measures 2,100 x 800 x 1,165 (mm), with a seat height of 835mm and a wheelbase of 1,405mm. It has a ground clearance of 135mm and a wet weight of 214kg. The fuel tank capacity of the Yamaha MT-10 2022 is 17 liters.
Accessories of the Yamaha MT-10 2022
In terms of equipment, the 2022 MT-10 retains the KYB front and rear suspension from the previous version, but with optimized internal components to enhance shock absorption on the road, providing more stability at high speeds. The new TFT screen on the MT-10 2022 inherits technology from Yamaha’s YZF-R1 sportbike, displaying vital information about the bike’s operating status. The convenient 12-volt power outlet located below the display screen ensures a reliable power source for long journeys.
The new electronic system, including the 6-axis IMU sensor and Ride-by-wire throttle, previously only available on the R1, are now also featured on the MT-10. The 6-axis IMU sensor allows riders to adjust the rear wheel’s sliding while cornering and control the bike’s wheelie.
The quickshift transmission system on the MT-10 2022 has been upgraded to a 2-way mode corresponding to the new generation Ride-by-wire throttle.
The Yamaha MT-10 SP 2022 version is equipped with a brand-new 6-mode electronic steering damper system from Ohlins. Additionally, it comes with sporty fairing, steel brake lines, and racing-inspired decals.
The Engine of the Yamaha MT-10 2022
Yamaha has been producing its crossplane CP4 engine for over a decade, allowing them to finely tune the power unit for the MT-10 2022. The 998cc CP4 inline-four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine is derived from Yamaha’s legendary YZF-R1 sportbike. The valve system and connecting rods are made of titanium to optimize production costs.
Thanks to this engine configuration, the heart of the Yamaha MT-10 2022 can deliver an impressive maximum power of up to 166 horsepower, 6 horsepower more than the previous version. Despite the increased power, the engine complies with Euro 5 emission standards, thanks to refined intake and exhaust systems, resulting in smoother operation.
The bike is equipped with various safety features, including cruise control with speed limiter, traction control, slide control, wheelie control, and a reduced rear sprocket size to minimize engine speed at high velocities. The 4 customizable riding modes allow riders to optimize the engine power to suit their preferences. The PWR 1 mode offers the most power, giving maximum power usage and providing a powerful throttle response.
