Similar to other models in the Maybach lineup, the GLS600 SUV and S580 and S680 sedans, the first EV model from the Maybach brand is developed based on a regular Mercedes, not an independent product. In this case, it is the EQS SUV, but the car has the distinctive Maybach grille, two-tone exterior paint, prominent 22-inch 7-spoke wheels, illuminated door sills, Maybach badge on the C-pillar, to differentiate it from the regular EQS models.
The Mercedes EQS model is distributed under the EQS450 variant with 355 horsepower, EQS 450 4Matic with the same power but higher torque, or as EQS580 with maximum output of 536 horsepower. The Maybach 680 increases power to 649 horsepower, with torque also improved from 850 Nm to 950 Nm, thereby reducing the acceleration time from 0-100 km/h from 4.6 seconds to 4.4 seconds.
Mercedes has not announced the battery capacity, but it is likely to be the same 107.8 kWh used for other EQS models, but the Maybach EQS 680 has a better operating range of up to 600 km according to WLTP standards.
However, the powertrain is just a supporting role in any story of Maybach, and Mercedes spends very little time talking about the dual-engine technology in the press release for EQS680. Instead, the German automaker mainly talks about the technology and luxury inside the cabin.
Under the rear seat is a sensor system to control the seat cushion, ensuring maximum comfort for passengers. In addition, rear passengers also breathe in cool air from the standard Air Balance package, listen to the Burmester 4D 15-speaker sound system, enjoy warm drinks from the heated cup holder, and sign important documents or read books under the active interior ambient lighting system created from 253 LED lights.
The standard rear seats are eco-friendly leather-wrapped, integrated with cooling function, neck and shoulder massage function. If choosing the Chauffeur Package, the front seat will automatically move forward before the rear seat reclines to increase legroom. However, for the ultimate luxury experience, users can choose the First Class package, expanding the front center console to the space between the two rear seats, embellished with glossy wood trim.
Each rear passenger has an 11.6-inch entertainment information screen. On the dashboard, there are 3 large MBUX Hyperscreen displays accompanied by some graphics specifically designed for Maybach.
Mercedes has not yet announced the price of the Maybach EQS, but it is likely to cost about $185,000-200,000 USD more than the Mercedes EQS580.
