BMW and yacht manufacturer Tyde have unveiled The Icon, a yacht model designed to compete with the Lexus LY at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

BMW leads the development of The Icon and provides the yacht with the electric propulsion system developed by the brand itself, while Tyde turns this idea into reality. Designworks, a subsidiary of BMW Group, is responsible for the design.

One of the key features on this yacht is the submarine technology originating from the yacht racing discipline. According to the German brand, this innovation significantly reduces energy consumption by up to 80% compared to traditional yachts, while improving comfort and speed.

The Icon is powered by two 100 kW electric motors, which convert energy stored in 6 BMW i3 batteries into a peaceful journey at sea. With a length of 13 m (shorter than the 19 m Lexus LY), it can reach a maximum speed of 30 knots (55 km/h). For comparison, the Lexus LY yacht is equipped with a Volvo IPS 1350 engine with a maximum speed of 32 knots (59 km/h).

Similar to the interior sound system of the BMW i7, The Icon boasts an exclusive soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer, a two-time Oscar winner. The yacht also features Dolby Atmos sound system, bringing rich audio experience to both passengers and crew members.

Inside, The Icon features an artfully designed lounge area. The 360-degree swivel chairs are believed to adapt to every situation and enhance interaction between passengers.

Meanwhile, the digital control panel uses BMW’s iDrive system, with functions accessible through voice commands and a 32-inch touchscreen display with 6K resolution.
