The Hilux Champ by Toyota is an affordable pickup truck designed for customers with limited budgets. What sets this pickup truck apart is its ability to be customized according to the user’s preferences using the car’s original frame.
According to Toyota’s plan, the Toyota Hilux Champ will be officially launched in the Southeast Asian market, specifically in Thailand on November 27th. The starting price for this pickup truck is estimated to be around 400,000 Baht (~274 million VND).
In reality, the Toyota Hilux Champ is the production version of the IMV 0 concept model, which was first introduced in December 2022 during the 60th anniversary of Toyota Thailand. IMV 0 stands for International Multi-purpose Vehicle – an innovative international multi-purpose vehicle.
Toyota aims to create a small and versatile pickup truck with the Hilux Champ. As a result, the Champ’s body size is smaller than the Hilux REVO but more flexible, like a LEGO toy pickup truck.
The chassis of the Toyota Hilux Champ allows the rear position of the cabin to be customized to serve specific purposes such as transporting goods, sales, or even acting as a mobile home. Toyota claims that the conversion of the rear body takes less than an hour.
In terms of powertrain, the Toyota Hilux Champ is confirmed to offer at least 3 engine options. The first is a Diesel engine with the code 2GD-FTV, featuring a 2.4L displacement, 2,393 cc VN-Turbo, a cylinder length x stroke of 92.0 x 90.0 mm, a compression ratio of 15.6:1, a maximum power of 150 horsepower at 3,400 rpm, and a maximum torque of 343 Nm at 1,400 – 2,800 rpm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed manual/6-speed automatic transmission and supports fuel up to B20. It has rear-wheel drive.
