Yamaha Grande and Honda Lead are the top two names in the world of scooters for women. Recently, the all-new Grande model has been launched in Vietnam with significant changes. Priced at VND 45.9-51 million, it has seen an increase of VND 700,000 compared to the previous generation. The Grande is now even higher in price than its rival, the Honda Lead, by VND 3.6-12 million.

On the other hand, the Honda Lead has only received upgrades to its equipment and has not undergone any significant design changes since its current generation was introduced in 2017. It is currently priced at VND 39-42.3 million.
Honda Lead: Practical, Yamaha Grande: Fashionable
The newly launched Grande still maintains its slender and elegant appearance, catering to the female customer group. The new design details of the Grande 2022 make it even more fashionable.
In this new generation, the clock face and the rear light cluster have been redesigned. Additionally, a positioning light strip similar to that of the Janus model has been added. The front lighting cluster retains the same shape and uses LED technology. The front turn signals are slimmer and now use LED bulbs instead of halogen as before.
The Yamaha scooter is also equipped with a charging port and a front storage compartment, which are necessary additions. Its competitor, the Honda Lead, has had these features for a long time. However, the design of the open charging port and the storage compartment without a cover on the Yamaha Grande can be inconvenient in rainy weather.
On the other hand, the Honda Lead has sharp lines on the sides and tail, along with chrome accents on the front and front aprons, giving it a luxurious feel. The Lead also features two-tier LED front lights and a Y-shaped tail light, enhancing its stylish appearance. Compared to the Yamaha Grande, the exterior of the Honda Lead gives a more imposing impression.
In terms of specifications, the Honda Lead weighs 113 kg, slightly heavier than the 100 kg of the Yamaha Grande. This makes the Lead more user-friendly for women, as it is easier to handle and park. Additionally, the seat height of the Honda Lead is lower at 760 mm, compared to the 790 mm of the Yamaha Grande.
Furthermore, the Yamaha Grande 2022 retains its left-side fuel cap design, which makes refueling more convenient. The Honda Lead, on the other hand, has a lower fuel inlet and requires manual opening of the fuel cap.
One of the strengths of the Honda Lead is its practicality. In terms of storage capacity, the Lead stands out among mass-market scooters with its spacious 37-liter storage compartment. Meanwhile, the Grande has a storage capacity of only 27 liters.
Yamaha Grande: Safety Technology
In this new generation, the Yamaha Grande is equipped with a front disc brake system, a hydraulic rear brake, and an ABS system in the front wheel. This gives the Grande an advantage over the Honda Lead in terms of safety features.
Both the Grande and the Lead have 12-inch wheels. However, the Lead uses a front/rear wheel set of 12 inches and 10 inches respectively. The larger wheels give the scooter a taller and more beautiful appearance compared to the Lead.

Some similarities between the Honda Lead and Yamaha Grande include the smart key, automatic engine on/off function at red lights, and front disc brakes.
One small difference is that the light switch has been removed from the Honda Lead since the 2019 version. Meanwhile, the Yamaha Grande 2022 still retains this switch. The absence of a light switch in Honda models, including the Lead, is not necessarily a drawback, but it can cause some inconvenience when using parking lots with cameras. The lights are always on, causing the license plate of the front vehicle to be dazzling. This requires the user to turn off the engine.
Honda Lead: Powerful, Yamaha Grande: Fuel-Efficient
The Yamaha Grande 2022 is still equipped with the Blue Core 125 cc engine, producing 8.2 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 10.4 Nm at 5,000 rpm. These figures are slightly lower than those of the Honda Lead.
The Honda scooter features the eSP+ 125 cc engine, generating 11 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 11.7 Nm of torque at 5,250 rpm.
Due to the addition of an electric motor to assist with operation, the fuel consumption of the Yamaha Grande 2022 is lower than that of its rival. The Grande achieves a fuel consumption rate of 1.66 liters per 100 km, while the Honda Lead consumes 2.16 liters per 100 km.
In summary, the Honda Lead has the advantage of a lower retail price (VND 39-42.3 million) and greater practicality. It is gradually becoming a popular family vehicle, rather than just a scooter for women. Meanwhile, the Yamaha Grande continues to be a friendly and safe scooter for female users, thanks to its convenient features and good fuel efficiency. However, the Grande’s price is significantly higher than its competitor, placing it in the premium scooter segment.
