The 2023 Ducati Panigale V4 R is powered by the new Desmosedici Stradale R 998cc engine, reaching a maximum rpm limit of 16,500 in 6th gear and delivering 218 horsepower at 13,500 rpm.
Ducati claims that with the Akrapovic Titan Full System exhaust and a special engine oil developed in collaboration with Ducati Corse and Shell, the Panigale V4 R can achieve an impressive 240.5 horsepower. This oil contains a unique blend of racing additives, which helps reduce mechanical friction by an additional 10% according to Ducati.
The power increase is also influenced by the use of “gun drilled” Titan connecting rods, which feature a small bore drilled along the length of the rod to improve lubrication in harsh conditions, and DLC-treated pistons. Ducati claims that these pistons, which are common in Formula 1 and MotoGP, are a first for superbikes. Additionally, the new piston geometry reduces inertia and decreases their weight by 2%.
Ducati has incorporated other modifications based on its racing expertise. These include more powerful intake cams, revised gear ratios, and a smaller and lighter dry clutch from WSBK.
The fairing has been updated to improve engine cooling, while the aerodynamics package has been modified with slimmer and more compact winglets that maintain the same level of downforce as the previous version.
The fully adjustable suspension system, shared with the Panigale V4 and V4 S 2022, features an Ohlins NPX25/30 fork with 124 mm of travel (over 5 mm more than the previous V4 R) and a repositioned Ohlins TTX36 shock absorber that increases the rear ride height by 20 mm for a higher center of gravity.
The fuel tank capacity has been increased to 17 liters, with a new structure that enhances rider support during braking and cornering. The flatter seat, with a new upholstery and thinner foam layer, allows the rider to shift positions more easily while leaning.
For electronics, the Panigale V4 R 2023 incorporates updated features from the Panigale V4 2022 and 2023, including the new Track EVO dashboard, engine brake, quickshifter, and refined traction control settings.
The Ducati Performance DTC EVO 3 traction control system now includes a rain mode, replacing the previous street riding mode. This mode is designed for wet surfaces and slick or rainy conditions and also activates the rear position light as required by racing regulations in wet weather conditions.
The Panigale V4 R 2023 offers four Power Modes: Full, High, Medium, and Low. In Full mode, the engine utilizes its full torque curve without any intervention from the electronic systems, except in first gear.
The High/Medium modes feature a new engine map with different calibrations for all six gears. The Low power mode is intended for street use or on low-grip surfaces, limiting power to 160 horsepower and providing a more manageable throttle response. Ducati has also improved the cooling fan control for better engine temperature management.
Ducati offers numerous accessories for the Panigale V4 R 2023, including the Akrapovic Full System exhaust system which maximizes horsepower. The optional forged magnesium wheel set further reduces weight by 0.6 kg compared to the original forged aluminum Marchesini wheels.
