Get a Sneak Peek of the Mini Toyota Land Cruiser: Hyundai Santa Fe’s Competitor

Meet the unexpected from Toyota - a compact SUV developed on a body-on-frame platform. This car model, contrary to expectations, will not be your typical "conservative" Toyota. With a smaller size than the Land Cruiser, it aims to give tough competition to the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe.

The top-rated Japanese Car website, in close collaboration with Toyota, has recently unveiled plans to introduce a compact SUV in 2024, known as the 2025 edition. According to the website, this upcoming model will be built on the GA-F platform, which is the same body-on-frame chassis used in the Land Cruiser 250 and 300 series.

Reportedly, the Land Cruiser Mini, or possibly another name, will offer smaller engine options such as a 1.5L naturally aspirated hybrid engine.

If this model comes to fruition, the Land Cruiser Mini would stand out among other compact SUVs due to its utilization of a body-on-frame platform. Positioned above the Suzuki Jimny Sierra and below the Land Cruiser Prado, the Toyota Land Cruiser Mini has the potential to become a strong contender against rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe. To accentuate its off-road styling, Toyota might even equip this new model with a large spare wheel at the rear.

Based on these insights, Halo Auto, a well-known car designer, has created a concept sketch for the Land Cruiser Mini. The design draws inspiration from the Compact Cruiser EV concept introduced in June 2022, as well as the previous FT-4X model.

In fact, during the Toyota Land Cruiser 2024 launch event in the US in August 2023, Toyota hinted at the possibility of a smaller sibling to the Land Cruiser Prado.

What are your thoughts on Toyota’s upcoming SUV? Personally, I find it highly appealing and worth the anticipation.
