There is a misconception that the Italian brand MV Agusta only focuses on high-performance motorcycles with big engines. However, in reality, the brand has been manufacturing scooters since the 1950s. Hence, it is not surprising that MV Agusta has introduced a brand new scooter model at this year’s EICMA exhibition.

Named Ampelio, the new MV Agusta scooter draws inspiration from past scooter models such as the CGT and Ovunque. MV Agusta hired Russian designer Maksim Ponomarev to reimagine the design of the ’70s scooter models in a modern style. After reviewing the sketches, Timur Sardarov, the CEO of MV Agusta, approved the project.
The development of MV Agusta Ampelio started 2 years ago. To bring Ampelio to life, MV Agusta needed a partner with experience in producing electric motorcycles. That’s why MV Agusta collaborated with Taiwan’s Kymco.
At last year’s EICMA exhibition, Kymco introduced an electric motorcycle called S7. This is the same electric motorcycle that shares a frame with MV Agusta Ampelio.

MV Agusta Ampelio features a compact design with a spacious footrest and enough seating space for 2 people. Additionally, it showcases a round headlight that pays homage to the scooter models from the ’50s.

The “heart” of the MV Agusta Ampelio 2023 is an electric motor with a power of 4.1 kW (about 5.5 horsepower). This electric motor is paired with 2 Ionex batteries with a capacity of 1.7 kWh and can be easily replaced instead of recharged. After a battery replacement, the scooter can travel up to 85 km.
According to MV Agusta, Ampelio weighs only 121 kg with the battery installed and 95 kg without the battery. Furthermore, the battery placement does not affect the storage space under the seat. As a result, the storage compartment of this electric scooter is capable of accommodating a helmet.

The designers at MV Agusta state that Ampelio will come with 2 riding modes, Normal and Sport. The company is also considering equipping the scooter with an anti-lock braking system (ABS). MV Agusta promises a modern frame with features like a smart key and accessories such as a rear storage box.

When choosing a name for this electric scooter, MV Agusta looked to both the past and the future. The letter “A” in the name is derived from MV Agusta’s ’50s scooter models. The remaining letters are inspired by “ampe,” a unit of electric current.
Currently, the release date and price of MV Agusta Ampelio have not been announced.
