Toyota is set to reveal the all-new 2025 Land Cruiser on August 1, bringing back this iconic model to the North American market. Following its brief absence, this SUV will be a distinct model from the J300 released internationally in 2021, and it is expected to be named the J250, replacing the Prado (J150) globally.
Official teaser images have revealed the close relationship between the 2024 Lexus GX and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser. Historically, the Land Cruiser Prado and the Lexus GX have shared platforms and similar exterior and interior designs. However, with both SUVs now available in the US market, Toyota is investing in greater styling differentiation.
This article provides a preview of the upcoming Land Cruiser’s design based on the Lexus GX and teaser images. The 2025 Land Cruiser combines classic and modern elements for an impressive new look.
At the front, rectangular headlights are positioned above air intakes, reminiscent of the J60 style. The black plastic grille is expanded, connecting with the black front bumper. The plastic panel on both sides of the front bumper stands out more than on the Lexus, integrating additional air intakes. The hood showcases subtle differences with gradually fading lines towards the box-shaped front end of the car.
The sides of the car share a similar design with other SUV models, featuring different designed wheels and minor changes in decorative accents.
However, the rear of the car tells a different story with Toyota’s unique vertically stacked taillight arrangement instead of the Lexus’ horizontally spread taillight cluster. The rear also features prominent “Land Cruiser” lettering.
While Toyota has not yet revealed the interior design, it is expected that the new Land Cruiser will receive significant upgrades compared to the previous model, drawing inspiration from the Lexus design. Toyota may incorporate the latest technologies, including a modern digital cockpit with a large infotainment screen, while improving material quality. The SUV is also expected to provide a spacious cabin with a 3-row, 7-seat configuration and a large trunk.
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser will likely share the TNGA-F platform with the Lexus GX and other SUV and pickup truck models from the Japanese automaker. If it has the same length as the GX (5,005 mm), it will be slightly larger than the current Land Cruiser J300 (4,985 mm) distributed in other markets. However, the different bumper designs may impact the length of the new Land Cruiser.
In terms of powertrain, it is highly likely that the 2025 Land Cruiser will be equipped with a twin-turbo 3.4L V6 engine, producing 349 horsepower, similar to the Lexus GX. There may also be an option for the i-Force Max hybrid engine with a combined output of 437 horsepower, as seen in the Toyota Sequoia electrified model. Regardless of the engine choice, the 2025 Land Cruiser is expected to come with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4WD.
