The KIA EV5 commercial version bears a striking resemblance to the concept car, according to leaked images. KIA has implemented the “opposites united” design concept in the EV5, which blends visual contrasts to create a distinctive and futuristic design. Along with its boxy shape and unique 21-inch wheels, this compact electric crossover showcases a “Digital Tiger Nose” at the front, reminiscent of KIA’s iconic tiger nose grille.
Bold and sporty cut lines accentuate both sides of the vehicle. The rear end stands out with its sleek LED taillights.
KIA recently unveiled the price and battery details for the EV5, which will be available in the domestic and Chinese markets. In South Korea, the EV5 will have a starting price of 50 million won ($38,000), while the long-range version will retail for 57 million won ($43,800).
The EV5 will feature a larger battery pack compared to the current EV6 (77.4 kWh). With an 82 kWh capacity, the EV5 will have a maximum range of over 600 km.
In terms of the charging system, KIA has opted for a 400V system instead of the high-voltage 800V system used in other HMG electric vehicles. While the 800V system allows for super-fast charging up to 350 kW, KIA has chosen the more cost-effective 400V system.
Initially intended for the Chinese market with the possibility of expansion to other countries in the future, KIA CEO Song Ho-seong recently announced plans to sell the EV5 in South Korea and other foreign markets. The company is also working on various marketing strategies to dispel the perception that the EV5 is exclusively targeted at the Chinese market.
