On Sunday (October 6), Marc Marquez won his 8th race of the season on the race track in Thailand. The 26-year-old rider from Repsol Honda Team now has 325 points after 15 races, which is over 110 points ahead of the second-place rider, Andrea Dovizioso from Ducatti. There are only four races left in the season.

Before the 15th MotoGP race, Marc Marquez had 300 points and was leading Dovizioso by 98 points. With this lead, Marquez only needed to win the Thai race or finish ahead of Dovizioso by more than 2 points to officially win the 2019 championship with four races to spare.

His victory at the Thailand Grand Prix marked Marc Marquez’s 130th time on the podium in his career, his 91st time in MotoGP, and his 53rd Grand Prix win. With his 6th MotoGP championship, he is now in 3rd place after the legendary Giacomo Agostini (8-time MotoGP champion) and Valentino Rossi (7-time champion). However, many believe that the young Spanish rider has the potential to surpass these two legends with his impressive performance and skills.

“It’s amazing to win the MotoGP 2019 championship. I didn’t expect to win the championship in the last race. Each season in MotoGP is special to me. To defend this championship title is not easy with the injuries I have faced, but the whole team has done a great job. And now we’ll enjoy this feeling of victory,” Marquez answered reporters after an emotional race in Thailand.

Andrea Dovizioso continues to be Marquez’s main competitor in the 2019 season. However, in the Thai race, the Italian rider did not have a particularly outstanding performance as he did not win the pole position, only starting from 7th place and finishing 4th. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez suffered accidents throughout the test day and qualifying. Nevertheless, Marquez managed to make his mark and secure the 3rd starting position in the main race and finished first with a time of 39 minutes 36 seconds 223 after 26 laps.

Young rider Fabio Quartararo from the Yamaha team finished second, only 0.171 seconds behind the champion, and is currently in 7th place in the overall standings after 15 races with 143 points.
