Ferrari’s Special Projects division has recently unveiled a one-of-a-kind supercar called the Ferrari SP-8. This unique convertible supercar was commissioned by a Taiwanese billionaire and is based on the F8 Spider platform.
The car gets its name, Ferrari SP-8, based on the significance of the number 8 in Eastern culture, which represents luck. The number 8 also pays tribute to the car’s V8 twin-turbo engine, which is highly regarded and has won the prestigious Engine of the Year award four times in a row (IEOTY).
The Ferrari SP-8 features a convertible design that allows the driver to enjoy the awe-inspiring sound from the V8 twin-turbo engine.
The car’s exterior is sporty and modern, with a striking black-silver two-tone color scheme. The front of the car stands out with its aluminum alloy grille, which is crafted using 3D printing technology. The grille features a vertical stripe pattern that gradually expands on both sides to improve airflow to the front heat exchanger.
Ferrari has dedicated significant time to refining the car body through computer simulation (CFD) to ensure optimum comfort and quietness even without a roof.
The SP-8 has redesigned headlights with special lenses, while the rear lights are directly borrowed from the Roma model. The windscreen and exhaust pipes of the car are inherited from the 296 GTB model.
The interior of the SP-8 features navy blue Alcantara leather seats combined with a special color-shifting woven fabric and twill fabric carpet with a metallic effect. Although developed based on the F8 Spider, some areas inside the SP-8 cockpit are taken from other Ferrari models. For instance, the center control panel and the F1 gearbox area are based on the SF90 Stradale but have been completely redesigned.
The Ferrari SP-8 is powered by the same 3.9L V8 twin-turbo engine as the Ferrari F8 Spider. This engine generates a maximum output of 720 horsepower and a peak torque of 770 Nm. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 340 km/h.
The Ferrari SP-8 will be displayed at the Mugello Circuit from October 24th until the end of the Ferrari Mondiali Finals 2023. Afterward, it will be transferred to the Ferrari Museum in Maranello for display from November 16th, 2023, until March 2024 before being handed over to the customer in Taiwan.
The price of this unique supercar has not been revealed by the Italian car manufacturer.
