Mercedes-AMG is preparing to replace the GT63 4-door coupe with an electric model to directly challenge the Tesla Model S, Lucid Air, Porsche Taycan, and Audi e-tron GT. This model will have even more power than the GT 644 E Performance hybrid with 831 horsepower.

This new model is being developed by Mercedes-AMG and utilizes the AMG.EV design platform. This platform enables the company to develop and manufacture electric vehicles that utilize Yasa’s axial electric motors.

Mercedes-AMG has not yet revealed the specifications of the car, but Yasa has stated that one of the 24kg electric motors produced by the company can generate 480 horsepower and a maximum torque of 800 Nm. The combined power of the car will be close to 1,000 horsepower, and there will also be an option of 3 motors similar to the Model S Plaid, Sapphire Air with a power of over 1,400 horsepower.

Last year, the German automaker provided a glimpse of the new electric sedan to the world with the Vision AMG Concept. This concept serves as a close-to-production preview of the overall design and dimensions of the production model. The concept has a length of 5,100 mm, slightly longer than the current GT 4-door Coupe and 147 mm longer than the Porsche Taycan.

An important aspect of the new sedan will be the battery. In order to ensure the lowest possible center of gravity, Mercedes-AMG will utilize thin underfloor batteries with silicon anode produced by Sila in the US.

Robert Lesnik, Head of Exterior Design at Mercedes-Benz, told Autocar: An electric car to replace the GT 4-Door Coupe will not be the only model equipped with the AMG.EV platform. “The AMG.EV platform offers a lot of smart design flexibility. We can achieve a much lower price point compared to the EVA platform,” he noted. “I can’t give away too much, but we’re not developing a new platform just for one car. The Vision AMG is a starting point. It is certain that there will be other electric cars specifically for AMG in the future.”
