Mercedes-Benz announced that the EQG will be equipped with cutting-edge technologies and possess off-road capabilities that are on par with its “big brother”, the G-Class.
In a recent post on Twitter, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the first images of the upcoming EQG and hinted at its imminent release.
The exact details about the EQG remain undisclosed, but Mercedes-Benz claims that this SUV will showcase exceptional off-road abilities, which have long been associated with the iconic G-Class.
In terms of design, the EQG closely resembles the G-Class, with minor differences such as a closed grille and square wheel arches. This conservative approach by Mercedes-Benz highlights the G-Class design’s timeless appeal and its role in establishing the “boxy SUV” trend. Additionally, the EQG features aerodynamic enhancements, including specialized cast wheels and small air vents on the rear fenders.
Leaked images reveal that the EQG’s interior closely resembles that of its larger sibling, the G-Class. Distinctions between the two models can be observed in the steering wheel design, gear lever, and layout of the central control cluster. However, these changes might also make their way into the next generation of the G-Class.
As for the EQG’s performance specifications, limited information is currently available. However, Mercedes-Benz did confirm that the SUV will be equipped with four electric motors. Furthermore, the EQG may become the first vehicle to adopt a new silicon battery, offering higher energy density compared to conventional lead-acid batteries, thereby enhancing operational performance.
The EQG also boasts a unique feature called the G-Turn, enabling the vehicle to execute a full rotation in place. This capability proves invaluable when maneuvering within tight spaces.
