The Vietnamese billionaires have a thriving hobby of collecting sport and vintage cars. In Vietnam, the Porsche brand is particularly popular, with two famous models being the Porsche 930 and Porsche 911 Carrera 4, both of which are several decades old. These two cars can still be seen on the streets of Hanoi.
In the near future, two more vintage Porsche cars will be imported from the US to Vietnam, but what sets them apart is that they have been heavily modified. According to the car dealer, this couple will arrive in Vietnam after about one month, just in time for the Lunar New Year. These cars are priced in the billions of VND. They are truly a luxury reserved for the wealthy and car enthusiasts.
The second Porsche 930 heading to Vietnam is completely different from the previous silver one. This car is from 1987 and has undergone a complete makeover with a new exterior design, large spoiler, and big rims. The engine has also been tuned to produce 500 horsepower, surpassing the original engine’s power of over 300 horsepower. This car has been modified by a company called Ruf, which is famous for its high-performance engines in vintage Porsches.
At the time of its launch, the Porsche 930 was the fastest commercially available car in Germany. It was later banned from sale in Japan and the US in 1980 due to changes in emission standards. However, the legendary sports car continued to be sold in Europe, with the engine upgraded to 325 horsepower and 432 Nm of torque. It eventually became a made-to-order model only.
The next vintage Porsche about to be imported to Vietnam is a Porsche 993 from 1984. It has a silver exterior and an eye-catching red interior. What makes this car even more interesting is that it is a convertible version and has an engine tuned to produce 760 horsepower. The original engine of this car series, a twin-turbo 3.8-liter engine by Porsche, had a peak horsepower of nearly 600.
The Porsche 993 series was also famous at the time as it replaced the 964 series with significant changes in the lightweight chassis, suspension system, and engine. According to Porsche, only about 20% of the components from the 964 series were retained, while the rest were replaced with new ones. The 993 series had various versions, including hardtop and convertible models. The car being brought to Vietnam is a convertible version with an electric soft top.
