Hyundai Motor introduced the 5th generation Santa Fe in August 2023, initially selling it only in the domestic market with gasoline engine options. However, the new model did not create much excitement in the first two months since the hybrid version was not available.
Starting from October 2023, Hyundai has added hybrid variants to the new generation Santa Fe, resulting in a significant increase in sales in South Korea. In October, 7,946 units of the new Santa Fe were sold, marking a 3,617 units increase compared to September. Notably, 4,669 of these units were hybrid models, accounting for 58.7% of the total sales.
Kia also launched an upgraded version of the 4th generation Sorento in August 2023, and it quickly gained popularity in the market. The Kia Sorento has been the best-selling SUV model in South Korea for the past 3 years.
In October, the new Sorento remained the top-selling domestic car with 8,777 units sold. However, this figure decreased by more than 1,400 units compared to September. The hybrid version accounted for 65.9% of the sales, with 5,786 units sold.
An industry insider stated, “The competition between the Santa Fe and the Sorento has escalated in the mid-size SUV market.”
