In late October 2023, the first batch of Xanh SM electric taxis from GSM officially arrived in the capital city of Vientiane, Laos, marking the first milestone in GSM’s plan to expand into foreign markets.
The VinFast VF 5 Plus electric cars are gathering at GSM’s “headquarters” on Kaysone Phomvihane Avenue, Pha Khao Village, Xaythany District, the capital city of Vientiane. According to the announcement, GSM has officially imported the first 150 VinFast electric cars into the Laos market to deploy the Xanh SM electric taxi service.
The VinFast electric cars are going through the final stages of preparation before hitting the road. In the image, the cars are being decorated with bilingual decals containing information about the Xanh SM taxi service hotline in Laos.
The process of obtaining license plates for Xanh SM electric taxis to operate in Laos has been completed. The charging station system has also been installed and is ready for use. Despite being new to the Laos market, GSM currently owns the most charging stations and charging ports for electric cars in the capital city of Vientiane. After gaining popularity in Vietnam, the Xanh SM taxis are now highly anticipated by the people of Laos, known as the “land of a million elephants,” eager to experience the famous VinFast electric cars.
The first wheels turning on Laotian soil for the Cyan-colored electric cars. According to the plan, GSM’s fleet in Laos could reach up to 1,000 VF 5 Plus and VF e34 cars. Initially, in the Laos market, GSM will develop the electric taxi service and eventually expand to a full ecosystem of services such as electric car rentals, all-in-one car booking services, personalized car booking services… similar to Vietnam.

With the openness of Lao users to electric cars and the lack of international standard electric taxi companies in the market, GSM is expected to have many opportunities to conquer its first international market.
Experts believe that with high-quality, noiseless, emission-free cars and excellent service, Xanh SM will gradually establish the habit of eco-friendly and smart transportation in daily life in Laos. Previously, in Vietnam, Xanh SM has already succeeded in creating significant changes for Vietnamese users. Over 6 months since its launch, Xanh SM has expanded to 20 provinces and cities, traveled more than 35 million km without emitting CO2 – equivalent to 1 million photosynthesizing trees over 100 days, and contributed 4 billion VND to Vingroup’s Green Future Fund.
