Mr. Ngo Tien Dat, a businessman, is the proud owner of the Motobecane 99z. Currently living in Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Dat shared his story of acquiring this vintage motorcycle. He vividly recalled traveling over 700km to the previous owner’s house and being pleasantly surprised by its impeccable condition.

When Mr. Dat initially purchased the motorcycle, it was in pristine condition, maintaining 98% of its original features, including exclusive repair kit accessories. In 2020, he acquired this treasured bike for $6,000 from Saigon enthusiasts.

The Motobecane 99z, produced by Motobecane, a renowned French manufacturer of bicycles, motorcycles, and other small vehicles, holds a special place in the hearts of motorcycle enthusiasts. Founded in 1923, this prestigious company has manufactured several iconic motorcycles.

Following its production phase, the French manufacturer ceased operations in 1981, making the 1978 99z version one of the final offerings from this iconic brand. It showcases the culmination of the company’s technological advancements.

Notably, the 1978 Motobecane 99z emerged in Vietnam during the 1980s, captivating the motorcycle enthusiasts with its elegant design and smooth reverse piston engine. Due to its limited production and scarcity, Mr. Dat’s motorcycle falls under the category of “rare and hard to find,” with its value expected to appreciate in the future.

This bike boasts a sizeable fuel tank with an impressive capacity of 8.7 liters, complete with a reserve valve.

The bike is equipped with a hydraulic mechanism that controls the responsive 240 mm front disc brake.

Adding to its distinctive appearance, this model is fitted with a long exhaust pipe, setting it apart from other Motobecane motorcycles.

The bike incorporates features like turn signals, brake lights, a 6V headlight, and an accompanying electric horn.

The 1978 Motobecane 99z is powered by a 2-stroke engine with 2 cylinders: 1 main cylinder and 1 auxiliary cylinder located under the engine.

Initiating a classic kick start, the 99z exemplifies a nostalgic charm.
