According to the popular automotive website Drive, Subaru has recently entered into an agreement with Toyota to utilize their hybrid technology in their models starting from the mid-2020s.

Last week, Subaru announced their plan to shift to Toyota’s hybrid technology by 2025. This decision comes after their own hybrid system received negative feedback for its lack of fuel efficiency, as reported by Drive.

With the successful launch of the new Subaru Crosstrek and an upcoming upgrade for the Subaru Impreza later this year, the 2024 Forester model has emerged as the most potential model for Subaru to implement the shared hybrid technology from their domestic competitor.

“We can call this the development of the hybrid system, or a hybrid system of the next generation,” stated Blair Read, the head of Subaru Australia, expressing his opinion on Toyota’s hybrid system being adopted by Subaru in the near future.

Blair Read acknowledged that Subaru is currently considering but cannot confirm which model will be the pioneer in adopting the aforementioned hybrid technology. However, it is highly possible that the next generation Forester will be the chosen model for significant design and engine enhancements, as stated by the Japanese automaker.

“The Forester has consistently been our best-selling model, so Subaru aims to equip the next generation Forester with the best features,” shared Blair Read.

The head of Subaru Australia also confirmed that the Forester with Toyota’s hybrid technology will be available in the market in the near future.

“There is a strong synergy between Subaru and Toyota in terms of technology,” added Blair Read, shedding light on the application of Toyota’s hybrid technology in Subaru models, with a focus on achieving better fuel efficiency.
