Recently, Toyota has officially announced the release of the new 2024 Crown Sedan.
It is available in two versions: a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) with a starting price of $54,900 (1.3 billion VND) and a hybrid (HEV) version with a starting price of $48,300 (1.1 billion VND), making it considerably more expensive than the Crown Crossover and Crown Sport models.
Unlike its “siblings,” the Crown Crossover and Crown Sport, which were developed based on the TNGA-K platform with front-wheel drive, the Toyota Crown Sedan 2024 was developed on the TNGA-L platform with rear-wheel drive.
The car measures 5,030 x 1,890 x 1,475 mm (length x width x height) and has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. Compared to the previous generation, the car is 120 mm longer, 90 mm wider, 25 mm taller, and has an 80 mm longer wheelbase.
In terms of design, the Toyota Crown Sedan 2024 has a modern and more stylish appearance, in line with its name “ministerial car.”
The front of the car stands out with a large hexagonal grille with vertically placed black accents. It also features LED daytime running lights that run across the front of the car and sleekly-designed LED headlights. Between the two headlights is a narrow air vent that integrates safety sensors for the active ADAS system. Below is an inverted trapezoidal center air intake with a chrome surround.
On the side of the Toyota Crown Sedan 2024 are sporty-looking embossed lines along with mirror covers, side pillars, and rear fender trim painted in contrasting black with the body color.
Depending on the version, the car will be equipped with 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels.
The rear of the car features a full-width LED taillight, black trim, and horizontal reflectors, making the rear section look wider, with a small integrated spoiler on the trunk lid.
Like other versions of the new Crown lineup, this sedan model also has a crown emblem on the front and rear. Meanwhile, the rear still features the familiar Toyota logo.
In the cabin, Toyota offers customers a choice of black or brown interior colors along with some luxurious wood trim details. The convenience features available on the Toyota Crown Sedan 2024 include: a three-spoke steering wheel with integrated function buttons, a digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen central display, wireless phone charging, electronic parking brake, two cup holders, power-adjustable driver’s seat, etc.
In addition, the car also has 64-color interior ambient lighting, power-adjustable sunshades, and a fold-down driver’s seat. The rear seats have adjustable air vents, USB Type-C ports, and a center armrest.
In the Japanese market, the Toyota Crown Sedan 2024 is available with two engine options: hybrid (HEV) and hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV).
The hybrid version uses a newly developed 2.5L inline-four-cylinder petrol engine combined with two electric motors. The specific engine specifications have not been announced yet. However, it is known that the hybrid version of the Toyota Crown Sedan 2024 has an average fuel consumption of 18 km/L (about 5.5 liters/100 km).
The FCEV version is expected to share the same drivetrain as the Toyota Mirai, with an impressive range of up to 820 km.
According to Toyota, the company will only produce around 600 units of the Crown Sedan per month, which is fewer than the Crown Sport.
