The Toyota Grand Highlander is an all-new 3-row SUV that shares a platform with the smaller Highlander. It offers two hybrid drivetrain options, seating for eight, and everything else you need for a long journey.
Engine
The Toyota Grand Highlander 2024 is available with three powertrains. The base version comes with a 2.4L gasoline engine and a 2.5L hybrid powertrain. Both options can be paired with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The premium versions will receive Toyota’s Hybrid Max drivetrain. It adds an extra 30 horsepower to this large SUV, bringing the total power output to 362 horsepower and a maximum torque of 542 Nm.
The Grand Highlander Hybrid Max can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, according to Toyota.
Interior
While acceleration is not the main focus of the Grand Highlander, it offers a spacious interior. Toyota promises a cargo capacity of up to 2,775 liters with the seats folded down, which is 396 liters more than the Highlander. Even with someone sitting in the third row, the trunk is still spacious enough to accommodate up to seven carry-on suitcases.
The rear-most seats are spacious enough for adults to sit comfortably, and occupants of these seats will have a USB port, a place to store their smartphone or tablet, and two cup holders.
In total, the Grand Highlander is equipped with 13 cup holders and 7 USB-C ports. Second-row passengers will also have air conditioning controls, and the Grand Highlander can be equipped with either captain’s chairs or a bench seat.
Front passengers will have a 12.3-inch infotainment screen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a center console large enough to hold a tablet, and two wireless chargers.
The higher-end versions will receive heated/ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 1,500-Watt power outlet, and a hands-free power liftgate. Additionally, the Grand Highlander will be equipped with a JBL 11-speaker sound system.
To create a comfortable interior, Toyota has designed the Grand Highlander with soft materials on the dashboard and armrests to create a “sofa-like seating experience.”
The leather seats can be adjusted in 10 directions for the driver and 8 directions for passengers. The Hybrid Max model features exclusive Ultrasuede-trimmed seats and leather seats with copper accents.
Advanced Technology
The Grand Highlander is equipped with over-the-air software updates, ensuring that intelligent features such as voice assistants are always updated with the latest improvements.
Connected services are available on the Toyota Grand Highlander 2024, including a 10-year trial of services such as emergency assistance, roadside assistance, stolen vehicle locator, and more. Vehicle status reports and maintenance reminders can also be accessed through this trial.
Standard safety features include forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, traffic sign detection, automatic headlights, and active park assist. The Grand Highlander offers a complimentary one-year trial of Remote Connect services, allowing owners to activate headlights, start the engine, lock the doors, and more using their smart devices.
The vehicle is equipped with a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, Toyota’s advanced driver-assistance system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
Bold Box-shaped Design
The new Toyota SUV features a boxy and simple design compared to its sibling, the Highlander. Designed by Toyota’s team at the Calty Design Studios in California, USA, the Grand Highlander has rear pillars in the same color as the body, giving it a solid and powerful look. The sides of the vehicle are designed with smooth surfaces instead of cut lines or creases, showcasing a simple and sturdy design.
Available in three trims (XLE, Limited, and Platinum), the Grand Highlander features wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches and a panoramic sunroof.
The price and production timeline for the 2024 Grand Highlander have not been announced by Toyota.
